Older political ads that could be template for Bush ads against Dean
You can bet Bush and friends are looking at old GOP commercials and will dredge up similar themes against the Democrat nominee. If it's Dean, I'm guessing these ads will serve as a template for their ads against him.

RealMedia versions of old GOP scare ads:

Issue: Defense cutbacks

Nixon's 1972 "Toy Soldiers"

Issue: Foreign policy

Bush's 1988 "Dukakis in tank"

Issue: National security

Reagan's 1984 "Bear in the woods"

Issue: Raising taxes on Middle Class

Reagan's 1984 "Tax Vignettes"

Bush's 1988 "Tax Blizzard"

1. Nice to see that you're digging up GOP propaganda
which is all blatantly false.

5. These ads are Poli-Sci 101; if you think Rove had no idea...
...about previous ads used against Democrats, then you really need to get a reality check on the situation.

Do you think Rove has never heard of Google?

3. Don't mention the Saxby Chambliss ad that he used against Max Cleland
because Ralph Reed had that one copyrighted. Although some slight variations may be used pending Ralph's permission.

The RealMedia version

Misleading ads with eery soundbeds make for damaging political hit pieces.

4. If he's smart he'll attack back with the awful truth
Use the same scare tactics except they'll be true. Show a dead American GI and say that * lied him into his death. Show * going AWOL from his TANG duty during war time. Show the unemployment lines, hell show it all.

6. Dean can't used the "Bush went AWOL" ad tactic
Dean went skiing... whoever didn't know that story would certainly learn it soon enough.

8. He was 4F though on his military phyisical
So he wasn't allowed to get in the military. Besides going AWOL and going skiing are two completly different things.

9. Dean can only use AWOL as a counter attack. To initiate any military
discussion would be poison for Dean. Bush will already be playing the national security/commander and chief card.

11. Don't forget the environment
Since Vermont's Lake Champlain is heavily polluted
http://www.medialit.org/reading_room/article87.html

"Scenes of a polluted harbor linked Dukakis with Boston harbor problems. Such visuals are absorbed by viewers who can't tell where the pollution shown originated. In fact, the Boston Harbor ad was effective in creating doubts about how the mildly pro-environment Dukakis would stack up against the arguably less environmentally aware record of his opponent."

important. Similar attacks are going to be used..so let's get ready for them.

Edit: Not just "against Dean" but against ANY Democrat. I think saying that they're going to be used against Dean in your subject line is somewhat inflammatory.

17. Should I say "some guy who was Governor from Vermont" instead?
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 12:11 AM by zulchzulu
It's too late to edit the subject line...sorry....

On edit:

The commercials I mentioned show some of the obvious issues that Dean will have to deal with as a candidate. If Kerry was the nominee (for instance), there wouldn't be an issue of raising middle class taxes (which Dean's rolling back Bush tax cuts would do) or not having any national security or foreign policy experience.

Additionally, Kerry could actually go after Bush's AWOL record since his decorated military background would be an advantage over Bush. Dean could not due to his problem that even his own mother says "looks bad".

18. They aren't going to pull out old tack, that'll never fly
Fuck, get real about what the Republcians are going to do! They're not complete morans (sic). They know the public despises re-runs.

There are right now as we speak multiple smoke filled back rooms all over the fucking planet where these bastards are sitting around discussing what brutally dishonest bullshit they can make up about each and every one of the potential Democratic nominees.

Shit, I bet they have two dedicated to Carol Mosley-Braun alone because they DESPISE that woman nearly as much as they despise Hillary Clinton. I'm positive there must be at least four of them dedicated to Al Sharpton because the man can belt out a mean James Brown tune and there is a slight chance he could win the nomination because somebody polling in miniscule numbers in January of 1992 went on the knock the shit out of Poppy Bush out of the blue in november of '92!

There is not a single candidate out there at any level whare fucked up greedy assed bastard Republicans are not dreaming up bullshit lies just to try and get an asshole puppet fuckwad elected instead of a Democrat that actually gives a shit about something other than lining his or her own pockets.

And you can bet your last dollar, both Dean and Clark are getting identical amounts of attention in the bullshit department from these evil bastards because either one of them stands a damn good chance of saying, "No, this emporor is fucking naked. His fucking suit is not wonderful because the son of a bitch is standing there without a stitch on for the world to see and this entire fucking country has bought into the lies of his puppetmasters for about four years now." and drop the whiny bitch where he stands come November second.

Fucking face it, there is not a damn thing any Democrat can do to stop this bullshit from happening. It will happen. It must happen. It is genetic with these fuckwads just like swimming up-stream to spawn is genetic in fucking salmon. Republicans just make shit up about their opponents because they are preprogrammed to do it. It's what they fucking do best.

FUCK! The bastards are still making shit up about Clinton and he's been out of fucking office more than three years!

I don't care who it is, the Democratic nominee will be wide open to this bullshit because Republicans simply cannot carry on a civil discussion about where the fuck we want to go and how the fuck we're going to get there.

I expect this bullshit from Republcians. The question is not how Democrats will react if Dean is the nominee. The question is how will the Democrats react regardless of who the fuck is the nominee.

God damn, this is EXACTLY why I went NBD. Everybody wants to slam fucking Dean for shit that everybody, no matter who the fuck they are, is going to face regardless of the fucking outcome of the primaries!

So let's get over the fucking, "how do we deal with this from the Republicans if Dean is the nominee" and just start talking about how we deal with the Republicans just pulling shit out of the fucking atmoshpere, serving it up on the boob tube, and calling it fucking truth.

20. I'm famous on DU for getting pissed off
I'm also famous on DU for changing my mind.

Right now I'm fucking pissed off and NBD.

If people could just get past the bullshit to the bigger picture, I'll still be a Dean supporter but could get the fuck over NBD. Fuck, man, Look at this brilliant resource right fucking here that all of us, regardless of who the fuck we support in the General Election, could be using to the advantage of whoever the fuck wins the primaries.

There's no changing anybody's mind here where it will actually make any fucking difference in the primaries. Fuck, let's stop tearing each other's candidates down and start brainstorming about the shitstorm brewing down the hall and to the far Right in Roverland because those fucks have 400 megabucks to spend on whatever the fuck they choose before they even nominate that idiot son of an asshole. We could do more GE brainstorming and post the results on our respective candidates blogs than those fucks will ever get out of their high priced consultants and our information will be so much more useful because we're real fucking people, not some plastic asshole with hair from a bottle going on fuckwad talkingheadjob shows to trot out the talking point of the moment.

If DUers could do that, fuck, ... I'd drop NBD quicker that Dumbass* drops bombs on brown people.

Of course, that's just an opinion I have. A lot of other DUers consider me an asshole.
