Is Marcy Kaptur An Option For VP?
Does anyone know if Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur is still an option for the VP? I seem to recall her name being tossed around here during the primaries. I'm just wondering if it's still being circulated . . .

1. I think she'd be great
It's funny - whenever I mention her name here or elsewhere people always say "Who?" Too bad she isn't getting more publicity and support because I think she'd be a great candidate and would obviously help with Ohio. But, what do I know ... I live in California.

2. I love Marcy Kaptur. She'd make a great VP.
She's on my fantasy list with Janet Napolitano and Julian Bond.

3. It'd look like a blatant case of tokenism
Picking some congresswoman who even in any real leadership position (yeah I know she ran for Minority Leader but she got nowhere) would look like she was picked soley due to her gender. Another Ferraro.

Besides, her voting record on abortion is very mixed. NARAL would get mad.

5. Didn't know that about pro-choice issue!
What's her position?

But she is the senior democratic woman on the appropriations committee and (along with Senator Byrd) received an award in honor of Paul Wellstone for her efforts to protect working families in the "Wellstone tradition."

6. well she had a 30 rating from NARAL last year
voted for the "partial birth abortion" ban, voted for the "unborn victims of violence" act, voted for some "abortion non-discrimination" act in the past, some other little things...

9. Sorry
Too much like Ferraro-if Kerry picks a woman, it'll have to be a senator or a governor (probably Landrieu or Lincoln, though I don't know if Lincoln could win both the VP slot and her Senate seat, or if she could even be replaced by Mike Ross on the Democratic ticket, since the primary is today)-probably just Landrieu then.

10. Unlikely
She's far too obscure and doesn't have enough experience. We tried that once before (see "Ferraro, Geraldine") and it was a disaster. We'd be much better off with someone like Clark or Edwards on the ticket this year.

11. Agreed.
We could use a little more name recognition and "gravitas".

13. Yeah I think the keyword against her is "congresswoman"
Because it by no means even comes close to swinging a red state for Kerry. Governors and Senators make good VPs for a reason. They have already won major statewide races and can usually do so again.
