Hillary WILL Release Tax Returns At Least Three Days Before Pennsylvania Primary
...unless she doesn't. Why this drama? Why not just do it and get it over with? I'm not understanding why they're bringing such attention to this. Maybe there's nothing there, so why not face the music?

Hillary Will Release Tax Returns At Least Three Days Before Pennsylvania Primary
By Greg Sargent - March 24, 2008, 1:36PM

It turns out reporters will have enough time to take a hard look at Hillary's tax returns in the run-up to the Pennsylvania primary.

The Obama campaign has been hitting Hillary regularly for "secrecy" over the fact that she has yet to release the returns. And asked on a conference call with reporters whether the campaign would pledge to release the returns at least three days before the primary, Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson said:

"Yes. That is a categorical yes."

It's still possible that this won't leave enough time for any revelations therein to sink in with the Pennsylvania electorate, of course.

1. weird. Honestly, if they can release them then, they can release them now
I find the three day window worrisome.

5. But worrisome for who? I am so confused.
Why the delay until then if there's nothing negative in 'em? And if there is, why the delay until then?

11. Because THREE DAYS before times it to be precisely in the Friday News Dump.
if its three business days. A popular Bush administration trick.

that's why its worrisome. That says to me that there are hidden negative easter eggs that they don't want to be fully vetted in time for the primary, but want to say they released it.

26. Ah, the Friday news dump! I do think people will be going through
them post-haste for whatever results might be there, but it does limit time to come to a conclusion. And as someone noted downthread, what happened to the release date of 15 Apr? Those ever-shifting goalposts...

Either that or you're actually smart. Cause those are the only two kinds of people that know about the Friday News Dump.

54. actually, I've never watched the West Wing
when it was on, I was working that shift, and when I was off that shift, it was off. It just never worked out.
But that doesn't mean I'm all that smart: I learned about the Friday news dump here at du several years ago.

14. You're the one who believed the sniper lie, and now you call others gullible.
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 03:44 PM by tabasco
You look the fool. Why is Hillary hiding:

White House records?
Senate earmark request records?
Tax returns 2001-2006?
Library contributor list?

You have to be some kind of fool to think the Clintons have nothing to hide.

They have dirty laundry piled to the ceiling in the back room, where they won't let anyone look.

But come the GE, sjhe will get raked over the coals and demolished for hiding her records.

And if she releases them, she is equally destroyed as a candidate.

25. I still believe she was told of a threat from snipers, possibly firing at the plane.
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 04:00 PM by bigtree
And I believe there there were evasive procedures employed, at some time on the trip, which she remembers, from flak jackets to running and ducking into a waiting vehicle. Those seem very plausible to me. I'm perfectly FINE with my judgment, thank you. No need here for any validation of that from you.

Obama has his own 'dirty laundry' which he's struggling to keep hidden. Almost every week he's revealing something new about his close association with the Slum lord Rezko . . .

Oh, and where are the rest of his tax returns and where are his state records? Gullible?

35. Obama has released last year's tax return.
Let's get the tax returns out there for when they started running for President. Obama released his months ago. You have the audacity to screech for Obama's returns when Hillary hasn't even released her return from last year?

What state records?
Fact Check: Obama's State Senate Records Are Publicly Available
http://factcheck.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/11/14/fact_check_obamas_state_senate.php

As for your ridiculous explanation for Hillary's lie, it is textbook gullibility. You believe what you want to believe. It is irrational to believe someone would insert "running from sniper fire" into their memory by mistake. It was a calculated lie to bolster her foreign policy experience and she got called on it.

41. I remember them saying something about being too busy to have their taxes done yet, but soon after
4/15 they will release them. When they were asked about previous years, they dodged the question. I hope they are pressed HARD on this. Bur if/when they release only '06's return, they'll probably say they misunderstood and will release the others LATER-after PA's primary.

9. Is that three business days? LOL. couldn't resist!
Seriously, with the primary on a Tuesday, if they release anything late Saturday, it will be too late to make the Sunday papers - although it could be covered on the Sunday morning talking heads shows. However, the majority of voters don't listen to those programs. Certainly too close to the election to include any information in mailers or most of the door to door GOTV.

29. Well, thanks for the advice, but
we're talking about last year's returns, not this year's.

I wouldn't expect this year's until June or September.

People who have a lot of investments can't always get the information they need for filing from those far-flung partnerships and corporations in time for the April 15 deadline.

They file extensions, pay an estimate - and if it comes in too low, they will have to pay penalties and interest later.

They can file extensions again in June and September.

I don't see what the delay is for 2000 through 2006.

I think she's trying to get Obama to play dirty, and throw out all kinds of accusations, only to find a relatively reasonable return with no major scandals, and have him look foolish and like a mud slinger for going after it so hard.

It's bait, Obama. Don't bite.

27. Not released?
My main point is that if there is something truly damaging, she should either release it now (or 2 weeks ago) or just stonewall everyone until June. To release it before her only real chance left seems like a very poor calculation if there's really damaging stuff there.

Friday news dump, maybe, but the weekend before Pennsylvania is going to hardly be a dumpable ground.

Of course I don't know anything, but I smell a trap.

Right out of chimps' playbook. His dumps are usually the Friday of a holiday weekend (hmmm, Easter?) but that would have left a few weeks of tax info dissecting out there in the media...
