Poll question: Who's responsible for the atmosphere on GDP?
It's not who's right or wrong, it's where you place the blame.:9

2. It is Hillary Clinton herself that has made this entire election so unpleasant.
And how can you expect more from her supporters than you can from the candidate? She is simply a horrible example. I don't blame her supporters for being awful...they are doing what she wants.

5. People who let their egos get tangled up in their politics
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 09:32 PM by ocelot
and take any criticism of their candidate, however objective or supportable, as a mortal insult to them personally; as well as people who don't understand that if they fling poo of a personal nature (e.g., "Hillary is a liar!" or "Obama is a phony") at their candidate's opponent, that opponent's supporters will not only fail to be converted, but will interpret such insults as personal to them also, and will predictably respond in kind.

So let's all put on our big boy/girl pants and stop behaving like meth-addled third-graders.

7. I think it goes back to the Clinton's race bating just after NH
That made a lot of Obama supporters angry. (I supported Edwards at the time) In turn the Hillary supporters stood by the Clintons and then everyone started to hate one another. It comes from the poor leadership of Hillary and her campaign.

8. Trolls. Easily.
I know that I've seen some long-time DUers surprise me and maybe a few of them have gotten TSed. But I'm convinced that the majority are disprupters paid by who knows who to try to drive a wedge between us.

But yeah, I think there has been a huge rash of trolls around here.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were paid for it. Professional Blog Poster is becoming a pretty hot career choice these days.

22. There are obvious operatives posing as advocates for both sides.

My advice to everyone is if you see someone being off-the-wall or inflammatory but not enough to be TSed, use the DU search and see what they stand for.

And add good posters to your journal list.

31. Other.
It's interesting: you begin with "responsible" and end with "blame." I suspect that most of us view the GD-P atmosphere in a similar context.

We all are responsible for our own contributions to the atmosphere here. I do think that there are some semi-organized efforts to influence the tone of the discussion/debate. The democratic party benefits from honest, though heated debate. Who benefits from the hateful arguments that divide people here? It is an important question.

Thank you for this thread.

A good number of them are posing, mostly as Hillary supporters, but also as Obama supporters, with the goal of stirring the shit and having us at each others throats.

Use the *plonk*! Deprive the wingnuts of an audience!
