My brother sent this letter to the Kerry campaign
Dear .....

In 1968, Walter Cronkite had a moment when he realised Vietnam was a total disaster, and it always would be.

If John Kerry is going to generate some campaign momentum, he is going to have to have such a moment re Iraq.

The Iraqis don't want us there - we don't want to be there - where's the hard choice? We set them up as well as can be expected by 30 June and then pull out. If they choose to have a civil war rather than cooperate with each other - it's NOT OUR PROBLEM. What are they, children who need Daddy USA to lead them around?

Bush thinks he can make Iraq a Disneyland, Middle East. That's never going to happen. All of Bush's plans for Iraq are never going to happen, and if John Kerry follows Bush, they're both going to be hopelessly stuck in the quagmire - looking very unattractive to voters.

When Bush uses the term "cut and run", Kerry needs to use the sentence "The Iraqi people asked us to leave - and so we left." What better way to demonstrate the beauty of democracy to the Iraqis?

Bush thinks the continuing horrors coming out of Iraq are just glitches, and tomorrow we'll wake up and everthing will be fine. Does it look like things are getting fine over there? Do you think things will EVER be fine over there as long as the U.S. is involved??? Things are going to hell because being in Iraq is flat out wrong for the US.

John Kerry has a lot going for him, and George Bush is a horrible President. And yet John isn't making any headway at all.

When John has his Walter Cronkite moment, that will change.

Sincerely,

2. Hubert Humphrey lost in 1968
in no small part because he refused to distance himself from LBJ's war policy. Richard Nixon promised that he had a plan to end the war.

If Kerry doesn't distance himself from this administration's war policy in a clearer fashion, he risks losing the election also.

3. I agree....
I sent a e-mail to the Kerry camp stating what you said. Kerry voted for the war and he is stating slightly different tactics to use to end the war. They are are so minor that he sounds like bush. People are saying, why change bush when Kerry is saying exactly the same. Bush or Kerry, our soldiers will still be killed. Kerry needs to revolt and say he'll bring the troops home now.

Kerry needs to have a Walter Cronkite moment and Spain Zapateo's moment.

bush can have a Cronkite moment and pull the troops out. His polls are low and bush will do anything to win. This can be a dissaster for Kerry.
