The Air America Cruise: BIAS & a Kick in the Pants for only 4200.00 a Couple!
My husband and I went on the Air America cruise. We were so excited, being faithful fans since the early days. We'd paid in November to go, a lot of money for us, before the primary got so heated up. When we first considered going, we hadn't a thought, or reason to think our favorite 'liberal' radio show and hosts would be biased for one candidate or another.

By the time February swung around, I was nervous about going. Randi, Rachel, and pal KO, had all been showing bias for Obama in their commentary, and against Hillary. Only Thom Hartmann seemed above the fray.

Our worst fears were realized in short order.

Here's what we got for our 4200.00 from Air America: a poolside cocktail followed by a great big kick in the pants, ie: You're not really welcome here!

In the very 1st meeting, station mgr. Mark Green made it extremely clear that this was going to be a trip for Obama supporters, Hillary people need not apply. After praising Obama, he commanded everyone to raise their hands if they were for Obama, and then for Hillary. The Hillary supporters were made to feel like minority outcasts.

Some people didn't go to another event. My husband did, to try and speak up, keep some fairness in the discussions, but got pretty disgusted. I'd had it after two experiences.

The kicker was a panel where the topic was how the media was affecting politics, the primary. Nobody even mentioned sexism and the Hillary bashing/bias by Matthew's, Shuster, Olbermann, Russert, etc....

Of course not! Why would they do that? That would mean they'd have to talk about their own bias on Air America, how they rarely discuss sexism or how it's been used to bash Hillary, while showcasing ridiculously biased Obama fever.

It was the most disingenuous 'political' forum I've ever been to.

At one point, another couple got together with us to approach the meeting organizers and ask for a Hillary supporters meeting, like a casual sidebar discussion afterwards. My husband did most of the talking when we asked. They seemed incredulous, but said 'okay', they'd announce it.

As we were walking into the meeting, I saw out of the corner of my eye that Mark Green and Randi had been standing behind us and heard what was said.

The first thing Mark Green did in the meeting was to say "I was told there was A WOMAN who was UNHAPPY about Hillary supporters feeling left out, unrepresented. There was a request for a meeting, so if THAT PERSON WILL GIVE ME HER NAME, I'll address it." I laughed out loud, and Sharon, a brilliant LMFT who was THE WOMAN in Mark Greens doctored versions of events, just turned and rolled her eyes at me.

It was like Mark Green thought he was the CIA! His tone was tinged with anger and intimidation. Randi was sitting next to him and said not a word. I guess it was okay by her, even though she'd seen what happened and that at least FOUR people, men AND women, had asked for the meeting.

I didn't go to another event, except the last meet and greet to talk to Hartmann and Paul Krugman, who looked like he did not want to be there.

It was the most ridiculously biased, closed minded, divisive liberal political event I'd ever been to. AND IT WAS OUR VACATION! They didn't even have the common courtesy to recognize that everybody had paid a lot of money to come, extra money to be part of the Air America meetings, and that they should keep things unbiased, open, welcoming to all, so everyone could enjoy it! No, they had not a care.

We simply could not believe it, and were entirely disappointed as 'fans'. I haven't listened much at all since we got back, and I hear from my husband it's only become worse.

In the end, I didn't mind missing meetings and drinking a cocktail while sunlit waves rolled by.

I realized it was really a pretty dumb way to spend one's vacation anyway,

but the nerve!

6. I feel for you..what a shame.
I was a HUGE RR fan until she went over the top anti Hillary..RR has lost it! I tuned in the other day...she was absolutely rude to a Hillary supporter ,insulted her..the whole time Randi talked over her in a manner I've never heard before. She has become an embarrassment to our cause..she made my stomach turn and I felt bad for the woman who was trying the whole time to calm Randi..strange.
Then she started about Hillary's most difficult time in her life,(from her book, she was referring) And proceeded to rip her on the emotions and anger Hillary went through during the ML saga...well, I was appalled...here she is smearing Hillary on the most painful moment in her life, then Randi insinuated that is how she would respond to disasterss in the WH "Yelling and Crying"..RR needs a break from the Mic..she needs to look at herself!

But I can't listen to her anymore.

This morning I was trotting around the house and realized I was wearing one my Randi Rhodes t-shirts, I noticed it was getting pretty ratty looking. Well time for a new dust rag.

66. I know... How dare she be angry at Hillary. And for nothing more than
supporting a Republican over a Democrat.

Big deal!

If a Democrat wants to promote a Republican as being more qualified than a Democrat, Randi should support that Democrat. (The first one who supported the Republican, not the second one the first one didn't like.)

55. I turned off Randi for the first time in four years today -
just found a great online music station to listen to instead! Yes, Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartmann (to a lesser degree) are Obama partisans as well, but they still manage to keep their shows fresh and entertaining. Randi's gone competely off the deep end - what does she think is the big draw when she's pushing such a polarizing view...her pleasant, soothing voice? I swear, it's like some people WANT to lose this November because they have some twisted idea that it gives them job security...

79. Give Stephanie Miller credit
While she's made her preference for Sen. Obama known, she doesn't bash Sen. Clinton or her supporters, has made it clear she will support and vote for whoever the nominee is, and has supported Sen. Clinton when she feels Sen. Clinton has been attacked unfairly. She's also commented on Sen. Obama when she feels HE'S made a mistake.

The funny thing is her show is comedy, but it's more fair and to the point than a lot of shows out there.

I am not an HRC supporter, but I sympathize with you on an awful vacation.. and the expense of it.. Were there at least other passengers on the cruise that you could hang out with..non political ones?

We've been on two cruises.. one fun and one not so much..

I rarely listen to AAR, even though I ditched Sirius and bought XM ...just to hear it.:eyes:

It's too bad that the cruise could not have happened before all the positions became so hardened..

I hope at least you got to do some sightseeing..

9. I was on the cruise and I think you are paranoid
There were many more Obama supporters than Clinton supporters. But, Mark Green said he was a Clinton supporter at one of the events. Maybe I misunderstood him. There were lots of lectures where people spoke up for Barack or Hillary and people stood there with mikes in their hands saying why one was better than the other. Sexism was brought out more than once. If you weren't there you didn't hear it.So I don't see why you were afraid to be seen as a Hillary supporter. Paul Krugman gave great policy speech on why he liked Hillary's health care plan better. No one gave an alternate speech on Obama's plan.

27. Are you an Obama supporter or Hillary supporter?
We are mixed in our household (I'm for Hillary, he's for Obama) and it's been brutal. He'll still watch KO, and the political shows and I can't stand to anymore. He doesn't see any bias, I do.

I guess my point is that it may seem neutral to those who want BO, but it doesn't seem so to Hillary supporters.

And for whomever asked, yes, Lula May WAS on the cruise, and if you ask me, even if there were 5000 supporters for Obama and 1 for Hillary, they still should have all been treated politely. We are all Democrats here. It's not as if she was a McCain supporter. And Stephanie Miller and Randi have both lost huge portions of their audiences over this. It was bad enough when they ignored John Edwards, but this piling on is ridiculous. Their shows are nothing but anti-Hillary dreck the whole time.

It's gotten terrible at our house. We can't even talk issues. He just says things about personality all the time, asking "don't you think that matters"? Of course, I think Hillary has a fine personality, but I like to remind him also that people voted for Reagan and W based on a perceived better personality than their opponents (again, I disagree) and they turned out to be two of the worst, if not the two worst, presidents in our history.

18. I'm sorry to hear of your experience. But there's been little doubt about AirAmerica's bias...
for some time now. They've just been too reticent to express it for fear they'd look...well, biased, you know, like some kind of left-wing, neo-liberal FauxNews.

I had heard that they were all on that cruise: Rachel, KO, Ed Schultz, Randi, Hartman, etc, just knocking heads together figuring how to bring BO to the alter for coronation, oh...while Randi fell in love :eyes: Divert attentions from what are genuine concerns regarding BO and his positions (Malloy went through a little gauntlet last night of BO woes, but he was back on HRC is very short order), and generally just pooh-poohing everything but BO.

AirAmerica didn't need the semblance of Dem unity for that. They could have just advertised it for what it was, took the money, and ran the seminars like closed door Tupperware parties. The only one I heard even allude to the mix was Randi, she was up front in mentioning that the cruise was predominately BO supporters.

52. That's disappointing. I'm sorry
I don't know much about the Air America cruise, but it sucks that you paid all that money just to be treated like second-class citizens. I'm sorry it was disappointing. You ought to ask for a refund of at least the extra money you paid to go to the meetings.

Just out of curiousity, what is the Air America cruise, and will they have another one? I think it sucks that it was so biased and they were not welcoming to you, but I have to admit, a cruise full of Obama supporters sounds right up my ally.

72. Well, this is a liberal forum, and Air America is a liberal venue
Hillary is the DLC candidate, so it's no surprise she's sort of considered the skunk at the garden party.

75. That's very apt and made me laugh!
I don't dislike Hillary, since she's my senator and I voted for her twice, but she's way too centrist for me, despite the contentions of the MSM *sigh*, and has voted with the Republicans way too often to make me comfortable. But if she gets the nomination, though it's looking unlikely, I'll vote for her...

85. Stickin to sports talk radio from now on
I've grown tired of Air America's spewing pro Obama shit... I'm going to back to sports talk maybe our local Air America station kicks the bucket because if I want to hear people use Republican talking points against the Clintons I tuned into nazi talk radio.
