Bush and Kerry running even in New Jersey Poll
More voters oppose war, but poll shows Bush-Kerry close

April 13, 2004, 6:03 PM EDT

TRENTON, N.J. -- Fewer New Jerseyans support the war in Iraq but voters have not yet abandoned President George W. Bush for Democratic opponent John Kerry, according to a poll released Tuesday.

A Fairleigh-Dickinson PublicMind poll found that 47 percent of respondents agreed that the United States' decision to go to war in Iraq was the right thing to do, down from January when 55 percent supported the effort. A year ago, 67 percent agreed about the war.

The percentage of voters who believe the country is "on the wrong track" has increased by 10 percent from three months ago to 48 percent, but Bush still has widespread voter support.

Bush and Kerry are running closely in the poll. Forty percent of voters favor Bush, while 41 percent support Kerry. When independent candidate Ralph Nader is included in the poll, the five percent he gets pushes Bush ahead with 48 percent compared to 44 percent for Kerry.

It seems that without Nader in the Mix, Kerry is a bit ahead of Bush.

But with Nader in the race, Bush actually gains points...

1. I am ashamed that my home state is so full of...
people of such limited brain power. Both Bush voters and Nader voters. Neither of them will provide any benefit to most of those voters.

5. This is the first New Jersey poll for months.
I expect it to turn around strongly for Kerry as Gore won this state by 15 percent in 2000/

3. With Nader showing Bush's numbers up if in, this poll only
proves that Jersey is perhaps a bit Bluer, than the numbers may suggest. Polling in Jersey is at best, questionable. Before the 2003 election, polls showed the Repubs were expected to win the state assembly, but... Dems carried both houses. At any rate, this poll show I still have work to do in my home state.
Bush and Chaney have both campaigned here several times lately, Kerry has not been here yet and Bush has blasted this state with TV ads, Kerry has not. With that in mind, Kerry's support is quite strong. Kerry will be here soon.

4. Sorry
Don't buy it. I'll buy that Oregon is tied because it's a swing state which Gore won by less than 1%.

I'm not believing that a state, which Gore won by over 10% is "tied".

NJ, will go solidly blue, just like NY.
