Hillary Clinton Working Wyoming

Hillary Clinton’s visit to Cheyenne, which began 45 minutes later than scheduled, occurred just before Wyoming’s 2008 Democratic Party Convention. Today, Wyoming’s 12 delegates will be awarded to Clinton or her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

A line snaked its way around the Laramie County Community College gymnasium hours before Clinton was scheduled to speak, not unlike a crowd that waited hours to see her husband and former president Bill Clinton in Laramie Thursday.

Clinton answered around 10 questions from a crowd of nearly 2,000 people, all sitting, standing or occupying bleachers in a circle around her.

“I would get us back to our fiscal responsibility,” Clinton said. “When my husband left office, we had a balanced budget and surplus.”

Because of the balanced budget and surplus, the Social Security trust fund was replenished and there was a plan in place for it to pay full benefits until 2055, she said.

“And look where we are today,” Clinton said.

Clinton said she has the solutions to the problems she sees in this country.

“I know there is difference between speeches and solutions,” Clinton said. “I want you to hold me accountable. I want to tell you what I will do with the economy, with energy, with health care and education and a wealth of other problems. I don’t think we have any time to waste.”

1. So unfair
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 02:41 AM by acrosstheuniverse
I didn't see one damn thing about Obama being there tonight even though he was there. And the Associated Press article of them campaigning there barely mentioned Obama except to say he was on the defense since losing Texas, Ohio, and Rhode Island on Tuesday. :eyes:

63. here you go pal
‘We’ll invest in you’

With music echoing, Pistol Pete waving the giant flag, cameras flashing and 8,500 people on their feet, presidential candidate Barack Obama made a rock star entrance last night in Laramie. In fact, even the rock stars in the audience were cheering for him.

In front of a crowd at the University of Wyoming Arena-Auditorium that had been waiting for hours to hear him speak on the night before the Wyoming caucus, Obama defended his notions of hope, called for change in the Washington way of thinking and told the audience to fight for what may not seem possible.

Included in that crowd — and garnering its own share of attention — was the rock group OK Go, which pushed back the start time of its concert last night to accommodate the rally.

Obama said America is at a defining moment in its history, as the nation is at war, the planet is in peril and people are working harder just to get by. That’s why he decided a year ago to run for president.

“There’s such a thing as being too late, and that hour is upon us,” he said.

With one hand resting in his pocket and the other holding a microphone, he rotated to face the crowd that surrounded him on all sides as many waved signs handed out by campaign volunteers.

After talking about the need to fix America’s health care and education systems and end the war in Iraq, the crowd exploded in cheers when Obama invoked the name of the current president: “No matter what else happens, the name George W. Bush won’t be on the ballot,” he said. “The name of my cousin Dick Cheney won’t be on the ballot.

And NEVER forget the Republican Revolution of 1994 either after her disastrous health care plan that even the Democratic Congress rejected.

But you should think about your rationale. Someone you believe in is 180 degrees from you. You would trust him. But you wouldn't trust someone he would trust.

8. She seems to have some support there.
I do not think Obama can achieve a blowout with her able to pull a crowd like that. I just hope those people are informed about her votes and past including the Cluster Bomb vote. It coming out there later could leave them feeling alienated to the democrats.

I believe Obama will win there around 55-60 percent. That is just from the limited info I have and the support both of them seem to get over there. It will be enough to stop this image of a momentum even tho she had a net loss last week with the results from continued counting.

We will just have to see. I just hope as many people as possible go out and VOTE.

may create more racial animosity and disillusionment then ever before in this country. I know this elderly African American fellow who actually cried when Obama won those Potamic primaries. Saying "we were finally coming so close to the change we've desired for half a century now." He said "The black youth need a real role model rather then those rapper and thug clowns out there on MTV."

There is/was so much hope and she could very well destroy it and wound America's psyche even more.

36. Well, some of us women cried when Hillary won the NH primary.
There have been African Americans who came before Obama who won primaries, but Hillary was the first woman to win a primary in this country and the media didn't give a damn. Obama should have waited until he had built a resume, he didn't have to run the same election season as Hillary. If not for his ego, why run when he had only been in the senate 2 years? We could have had two great presidents and maybe 16 years of Democratic rule, instead we are having the most divisive primary in recent Democratic history. It's heartbreaking.........

Nothing but scandal after scandal after scandal and huge Republican majorities across the land while they were in there.

Why will it be any different now?

67. Obama couldn't translate his crowds into a win in Ohio, Rhode Island
even in Texas, more Clinton supporters showed up at the polls, despite being outspent 2-1, 4-1 on ads, and despite Obama's huge crowds of the curious.

juvenile, spamming this thread with your Obama pics. I NEVER interfere with candidate support threads like this, mucking them up with Hillary photos.

70. Hm. Why did she come to WY when she says they don't matter ?
Hillary has said the red states don't matter. She has said it time and time and time again by saying that the red states Obama has won "are not states we are going to win in November anyway." thus trying to minimize the importance of his wins in red states. She also again dissed their caucus process right in front of them yesterday. So here we go again with Hillary-The-Hypocrite. She says they don't matter, and then she shows up to try to say that, well, yeah, ok, maybe they do suddenly matter. Say one thing, then say another thing, then do another thing...
Is there a "real" Hillary Clinton to be found anywhere?????

79. she never said 'red states don't matter'
and you've put into quotes a statement that i don't believe Hillary Clinton has made: "are not states we are going to win in November anyway."

Hint: A post about 'hypocritical' acts should be factual, not based on shorthand conclusions not supported by actual statements or fact.

99. Fine, here's ONE of her MANY very NUMB quotes on this issue.
AS reported in the Huffington Post last month:

"In the wake of loses to Barack Obama in last weekend's slew of primaries, Clinton sought to minimize the political fallout by noting that several of the victories came from traditionally Republican-leaning states. 'It is highly unlikely we will win Alaska or North Dakota or Idaho or Nebraska, ' she told reporters."

She has repeated this line MANY times, even again just a few days ago. The VERY clear message is that Dem primary wins in these states DO NOT MATTER because she asserts we can not win these states in the general election. So she has written off these states and the Democrats who came out in large numbers to vote in them. But what she idiotically doesn't think about is that this will HAUNT her and the down-ticket Dems in these states if she is nominated. IT IS STUPID for her to say this shit. It is OLD, TIRED, OUTDATED, 20-STATE LOSING STRATEGY, TERRY MCAULIFFETYPE THINKING THAT WE HAVE WORKED OUR BUTTS OFF TO GET RID OF.

Sure, it would be hard to win some of these red states in the general election. So we just blow them off? We don't even try? We just sit back and stay a wimpy, piddly 20-state party?? We don't think about the Dems in those states who ARE making headway in taking back some local and state level offices?? We don't think about our good chances to win Governorships and congressional races in these states?? (i.e. like in KS, AZ, MT, and WY)

HILLARY NEEDS TO STOP THINKING SO SELFISHLY AND START THINKING ABOUT THE REST OF THE PARTY FOR A FRIGGING CHANGE !! BUT TO THE CLINTONS, IT IS ALWAYS ONLY ALL ABOUT THEM AND WANTING TO KEEP THEIR ESTABLISHMENT POWER. NO WONDER WHY HALF THE COUNTRY CAN'T STAND HILLARY CLINTON !!

88. "I want you to hold me accountable"- what bullshit Hillary-
where are your tax-returns?

What about your "first lady" papers?

What about your staff's "Ken Starr" comment?

What about the IWR?

What about "I extended my hand in friendship and unity"?

What about "I take him at his word"?

What about your McCain endorsement?

What about abiding by the agreement re: MI and Fla?

you are so disingenuous.

"Working Wyoming" alright.

91. not my invention- they are her albatrosses- doubt all you like,
if she were to get the nom, these questions wouldn't go away- or be answered honestly-

She has proven that she does not live up to her word-

Accountability doesn't mean destroying the questioner, it means answering the question.

some day you will grasp this.

97. you aren't likely
to get the chance to see just how much they would have impacted her in the end-
But to the people that she would need to support her in order for her to have a chance of winning, they matter.

You not be able to see it, or understand it- but they DO matter.

101. you don't appreciate that ANY Democratic nominee will face the lies
and be challenged to explain their record, along with their proposals. But, most voters live in the present, look to the future, and vote that way.

102. the truth about what is on her tax returns is the 'future' -
Where is her money comming from? Who is she indebted to?

These are not questions that we DEMS want answers to- it isn't about
'facing lies'- unless Hillary has been hiding her returns because they reveal things she knows will not speak good things about her.

Hillary is RUNNING on 'the past'- how can you reconcile that with your claim that most voters live in the present, and look toward the future- ???

She is running on "experience"- pointing backwards-???

Your perspective and your candidate are at odds with each other??.
