Message From an Ohio Voter to DUers in Other States
Dear DUers from Other States,

I am an Ohio voter.

It's true that my state has a certain percentage of uneducated people, stupid people, rednecks, racists, homophobes and sexists.

So does yours. I'm willing to bank on it.

It's also true that my state has a percentage of people who seem to vote against their best interests.

So does yours. I'm willing to bank on it.

But. I am neither uneducated, stupid, redneck, racist, homophobic nor sexist, just because I actually choose to live in Ohio. That's right--the decent people didn't all flee the state long ago. Some of us who left even came back! Fancy that!

Therefore, when you try to blame me and my all uneducated, stupid, redneck, racist, homophobic and sexist fellow Ohioans for any election outcome you don't like, you are collectively insulting about 11 and a half million people.

Do you think that's right?

I am sick of being blamed for Bush in 2004. How can you know we voted for Bush in 2004, when mounds of evidence point to our election being stolen? Those of us who, personally, did not vote for Bush are tired of bearing the collective blame for him.

For the record, I didn't vote for Hillary yesterday either. So whether you want to blame me or thank me for the outcome, you can forget it.

In short: I am an Ohio voter. I was born here. I live here now. And I am proud of it.

And if you insist on mischaracterizing my state as being full of nothing but uneducated, stupid, redneck, racist, homophobic, sexist people, who constantly vote against their own best interests because they are too dumb to know better and, what's worse, constantly stick America with crappy presidents, I'm going to hit the Alert.

I invite my fellow Ohioans to join me.

DU should be better than this. We should not have to put up with this shit from now through November.

Thank you. That is all.

4. Jeff Farias
was just saying that he is tired of cable analysts trying to break things down by demographic groups.
He knows lots of people across the spectrum and there are so many variations in each group, that none can be labeled or pigeon-holed.

5. We Southerners know how it is to be assumed a racist redneck idiot.
It sucks. Sorry you have to deal with it too. :hi:

6. DU should be better than this.
That's a fact.

But, as I've said before, anonymity seems to give people license to hate and permission to post the first stupid thing that enters their head. For example, to start with I refer you to posts comparing Hillary to Mussolini or Obama to Hitler.

Thankfully, the Mods delete this insanity before we show our asses to the world, but they still appear with alarming frequency.

And I hear you: I'm from Florida. :)

7. Thanks for saying what you did.
I love Ohio - my dad was born there, and I have good friends who live there.

I also love DU. However, the level of nastiness is beyond disgusting, and is probably the main reason I am restricting my interaction to the KOEB and the WI forum.

And - mean people suck, and they make the baby Jesus cry, and the adult Jesus want to kick some ass.

:hi:

11. Now, just hold on a second, here.
I, being from the land of fruits and nuts, California, (where it is 75 degrees and sunny today), would also like to state that I would feel quite similarly about being blamed for Obama's non-win here (I voted for him), or Ronald Reagan, or anything to do with Los Angeles or San Diego (because that's SoCal and I'm NorCal), or Charles Manson, or 'Gigli'.

Someone really blamed you for Obama's non-win, AND for Kenneth Blackwell? I used to live in Toledo, so I'll stand up for you on this one.

It's not the country, or the states, or the county, or even the block. No, it's each individual that makes the mistakes that lead us to Hell.

So blame my brother-in-law. Personally. Oh, yeah, now he's a waffling 'Independent And Sorry About Bush' guy. But he's still eyeing McCain. Some people never learn.

Blame THEM.

18. Bravo, Berry!
There are all kinds of people in every single state, and characterizing your state (or any other state) as being full of "nothing but uneducated, stupid, redneck, racist, homophobic, sexist people" is bullshit!
