Kick this if you're tired of the sexism/racism intimidation.
Are you tired of being called a sexist or a racist for supporting your candidate? I know I am. It's hard to believe there are so many posters here just aching to accuse anyone who doesn't vote for their favorite of being a hatemonger but the number seems to grow each day. Of course this is only way some of the less mature posters at DU can support their candidates, but I'm tired of being bullied into supporting someone I don't agree with just because I'm afraid of being accused of not liking women or African-Americans.

So kick this is you're tired of the bullying. Tell the intimidation squads that we won't put up with their tactics any longer. It doesn't matter who you support because we've all had it happen.

7. Hate to say it but before I supported Obama I was called racist all the time.
When I was supporting Edwards I was called racist AND sexist. I just couldn't win.

It's time to show that we don't support either.

I refuse to use the ignore feature
I'd rather say my piece TO them-I will not try and change anybody's mind as to who to support but I WILL try to change the way they criticize those that don't agree with THEM-by calling someone (like me) a sexist

26. There are several posts in this thread from people I have on ignore.
And I'd bet every one of them is screaming about how there's so much sexism/racism at DU or telling me to get over it. :)

Maybe these posters are just projecting their own prejudice onto others.

15. Not me.
I supported Kucinich then Edwards. I wasn't called racist or sexist and I'm not a white male.

No one has called me sexist for supporting Obama although I am not a male.

I agree it is time to stop all the childish bickering and name calling. We've got to keep our eyes on the prize...WH.

12. it's ignorance
and shouldn't be tolerated here-whichever side it comes from. We don't know each other here, how we live our lives, what we DO in our lives and where we LIVE and who we live WITH. I take great offense at being called a sexist since the Clinton supporters started throwing the word around like beads on Fat Tuesday

16. I don't deny there's racism and sexism here.
I deny that everyone who doesn't support your candidate is racist/sexist. When someone really does come out with a racist or sexist remark, lots of good DUers jump on them immediately to shut them down. I'm talking about people who keep posting that anyone not supporting Clinton is sexist and anyone not supporting Obama is racist. Sadly, it's happening far too often.

Sexism is actually promoted by some here.I have seen it. Sorry but that is an awful truth. I have been "shocked" both here and inthe "real" world about how much sexisn there still is.I guess I though we had made more progress than we had or I wasn't paying enough attention.

28. I disagree
the word sexist is being thrown around too liberally around here-I'm not seeing Obama supporters asking why people with rainbow avatars are mostly supporting Clinton, and NOT seeing accusations flying around saying these people must have some anti-straight man agenda going on-that wouldn't be tolerated around here would it? Ask my wife or my two 20 plus year old daughters if I'm a sexist before throwing THAT garbage around

It's inexcusable, it's ugly, and it's not helping us at all.

If you prefer a certain candidate, fine. But why do you think you need to set your phaser on 10 and try to obliterate supporters of the other candidate?

I can hardly bear to come into the forum much anymore, because of the nastiness.

Cut it out, folks. One one of them will get the nom. Save your phaser power for McCain.

(And last1, hopefully you know that by "you", I don't mean you.)

20. Absolutely!
I saw someone called a racist for calling Obama a "child king" like bush*. While it was an insult, it wasn't racist at all - that is unless bush* is black and we didn't know it. Also, I was told I was supporting misogyny when I posted that I was voting for Obama. I hadn't said anything about voting for Obama because he wasn't a woman but that didn't stop the poster.

Sadly, the examples are everywhere.

21. Whatever the media pushes, the weak minded jump on here...
and push the same nonsense, thats all it is. Yes there are cases of sexism and racism obviously but this is just another way of the governments agenda being pushed by the media to divide the country so we will continue to allow them to rape us all and run us into poverty.

United we stand, divided we fall. If you look at our country, our shrinking bank accounts, eroding constitution, wars for oil, you name it, its all taking place because we have been dumbed down and divided as a country.

I agree that it is difficult to read some of the more harsh posts on the DU but I'm hoping it will soon abate. Even when one posts for informational purposes to stimulate discussion, it is taken as an affront by some. Those who fall back onto usage of sexist and racist statements are really dumbing down any hope of discourse. The DU should be a good site to gain from intellectual interchanges -- right now it is not. I hope it will be in the future. I'll stay with the DU for a bit longer to see whether the atmosphere changes.

Patience.
As W. O. Douglas reminded us,
"Free speech is not to be regulated...The audience that hissed yesterday may applaud today, even for the same performance."
Obama and Clinton supporters might want to consider Douglas's message.

30. Of course sexism and racism both exist.
Plus I have seen a lot of ageism at DU as well. We should fight all of those "isms" but to suggest that anyone who opposes Clinton is a sexist is just wrong. Likewise, automatically accusing Obama's opponents of racism is just as wrong.
