Poll question: Will you continue to support the Democratic Party if....
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 12:09 PM by hiaasenrocks
I'm asking this b/c I think it could do irreparable harm to the Democratic Party, but I am NOT asking this from a Hillary-supporter or Obama-supporter standpoint. Put those allegiances aside for the moment, because this COULD go either way.

Assume for a moment that we do in fact end up with the super delegates making the ultimate decision on the nominee. And suppose they end up choosing the candidate who did not win the majority of pledged delegates and/or the popular vote. (I realize the former is more important as the process is concerned.)

If the super-delegates vote for the candidate who did NOT win the majority of the delegates as decided by the primaries and caucuses...

1. Is it already time for the daily loyalty oath?
Time certainly flies!

3. Not literally.

If there were an actual loyalty oath, I would never have anything to do with the party in the first place.

2. Super delegates are not there to support the will of the voters.
Please.
If the will of the voters is known through voting, what need is there for super delegates?
I am pretty sure super delegates are there to do just the opposite-if for whatever reason they are not satisfied with the will of the voters, they could select someone else.

4. Either way if they flip the nominee it will lead to a crushing defeat in Nov....
Up and down the ticket.

Young voters will stay home in droves and the Indys will either stay home or vote McCain.

6. I think we fret too much
The superdelegates that haven't already committed are mostly, presumably, on the fence at the moment. They are waiting to see what shakes out.

If they were in Hillary's camp, they would already have announced their support for Hillary.

7. If the Democratic party is no longer democratic, what's the point in hanging with them?
If I want a top down, fascist oriented party, I can go hang with the 'Pugs.

If the supers do decide who gets the nod, over the plainly expressed will of the people, it will be the death knell of the Democratic party. Too many people will leave in disgust, and it will lead to another liberal party, perhaps the Greens, rising to dominant power. Now that I think of it, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all, given how corporately corrupt the Dems already are.

8. We saw what getting a President appointed got us in 2000
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 12:33 PM by IndianaGreen
I won't support appointing the nominee either!

Let the winner of the pledged delegates become our nominee, be it Hillary or Obama. No backroom deals by people having such low opinion of the voters.

I will continue to support my Indiana Democrats because I know them, and I also know the assholes on the other side.

9. I can not support a selected candidate,
whether it be Obama or Hillary.. I can't do it. If the super delegates go against the state delegates and the legitimate vote of the people, I will support someone else in their stead. I will not vote for McCain, but will either write someone in, or sit on the side lines.. and yes it kills me to say it. 4 more years of Bush type crap.. or 4 years of a person who was put their by the elites.. neither seem to good to me right now.

What kind of party creates a system where there is even a chance that elites have the power to take away the peoples voice? I'm new to the Dem party.. so please.. explain this to me.

14. I have a feeling they might change the process
after the election even if it doesn't come down to the scenario we're talking about.
