McCain wrapping up the Repug nomination helps Obama.
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 07:21 PM by jefferson_dem
Here's how -

1. Democrats will be more inclined to consider General Election electability, drawn to the candidate they believe best matches up against McCain. That's Obama.

2. In states with open primaries, Independents who may have played in the Repug primary for McCain will be free to vote for their favorite Dem (Obama) and/or against their least favorite one (Hillary). Open primaries include Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Indiana.

2. I don't think so, cause BO will have to debate him in the end.

5. First, I think the point is that the resolution of the Repug race helps Obama for the NOMINATION, &
as for the general, Obama does indeed run stronger against McCain than does Hillary -- and CONSISTENTLY so across many polls (I don't know if it's ALL the major ones, would like to see a review).

Further, in the general election, it would seem that if the Democrats never stop reminding voters, EVERY DAY, and in every way possible, that McCain is the candidate of STAYING in IRAQ until "the job" whatever that is "is done" IE FOREVER. Most REPUGS at this point don't want to stay in Iraq indefinitely and most Dems were already dovish on Iraq in 2004, even though there was some sort of stupid hue & cry that Kerry would be able to beat Bush instead of Dean (total BS then and now).

Iraq is a big enough reason, considering not only the war and its immediate casualties of killed and injured, but its MONEY impact, which in turn totally undermines domestic politics in the US, for MOST PEOPLE TO VOTE AGAINST McCAIN. I think beating McCain should prove easier for Obama than beating HRC. Problem now is -- what if he shows from here on out that he wins MOST states, MOST delegates, MOST votes and MOST polls and then still has less than the magic number needed. SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ELITE TO GET THE F*^% out of the way and give Obama the nomination (which they might indeed then have little choice but to do!)
