Poll question: In 2006 Hillary Clinton voted AGAINST a ban on cluster bombs in civilian areas.
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 09:19 PM by Bread and Circus
Senator Obama voted FOR a ban on Cluster bombs in civilian areas.

Unexploded cluster bombs are picked up by small children thinking they might be toys (because they are round and shiny) and result in thousands of cases of life and limb.

Knowing that, which statement below best describes your position?

1. Cluster bombs - the gift that keeps on gifting. Think of them as
land mines spread from the air.

17. That's why I can hardly believe it when I read it.
Clinton has a great record on children. It boggles my mind.

I thought if it was a vote and the OP didn't just make it up, there would be a bill number.

15. 4 million cluster bombs - 1 million of which failed to detonate on impact
That's according to Israel's own internal investigation. Over 1,000 civilians died in the war in Lebanon, and another 26 died upon returning to their villages and setting off the things by accident.

Special Report:
Clinton vs. Obama on the Cluster Bomb Vote
(updated below - includes full text of Senate Amendment No. 4882)

" the single greatest risk civilians face with regard to a current weapon that is in use." -Marc Garlasco, senior military analyst at Human Rights Watch

David Rees, the man behind the hilarious and trenchant Get Your War On, reminded me yesterday of another especially egregious - yet much less known - vote cast by Senator Hillary Clinton, which no one in the mainstream media is talking about:

But in the autumn of 2006, there was a chance to take a step in the right direction: Senate Amendment No. 4882, an amendment to a Pentagon appropriations bill that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas.

Senator Obama of Illinois voted IN FAVOR of the ban.

Senator Clinton of New York voted AGAINST the ban.

Analysts say Clinton did not want to risk appearing "soft on terror," as it would have harmed her electibility.

16. B.S. I posted one article on this and a separate poll.
I posted a third article that is extensive on Clinton's foreign policy record which is surprising as it is disturbing.

My source articles are sound. My exposition is fair. There's no spam about it.

If you can defend her positions go ahead.

I noticed no Clinton supporters actually want to vote in the poll. I assume they are ashamed.

19. Hillary's opposition to banning cluster bombs and mines is not unique to her
Israel is the biggest user of cluster bombs on civilian areas, far more than the US in Iraq. The US is the biggest opponent to banning land mines largely because we have planted so many in the Korean peninsula.

Hillary's opposition to banning cluster bombs and mines is not unique to her. How many Democrats repeat what the Israeli rightwing spouts? How come so few of them even acknowledge that there is such a thing as an Israeli peace movement?

20. No, it's not. But this is one time where both candidates were put to a test.
I think Obama made the better choice, the more humane choice.
