Hillary won the Latino vote in California by FORTY
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 11:26 PM by jackson_dem
The white Democratic vote was split but Obama won white indies by 37 (11% of the vote). Latino Democrats accounted for 25% of voters and Hillary won 70-30. Latino indies accounted for another 3% but there weren't enough for us to have any exit poll data. Black Democrats were only 5% of voters since the black population is small in CA. He won that vote 77-19-5 but it isn't enough to come anywhere near offsetting the larger Latino vote. If Obama loses it will be due to this poor showing with Latinos.

It should be made clear Obama can win but he has an uphill climb because of this.

I must say a smile came across my face as I typed 5. Edwards struggled with black voters from the beginning this time but in California he did as well with blacks and he did with whites. If only...

You can always changed your registration to vote in a primary but when asked in an exit poll you can state your real affiliation.

2. Anyone understand why?
Would Latinos vote for Obama in the GE or vote Republican or stay home? I'm struggling to understand the lack of support for Obama by Latinos.

6. Vote for Obama in the GE
I think what is happening to Obama with Latinos is what happened to Edwards with blacks. They liked Edwards but like Obama more. I think Latinos like Barack but like Hillary more. If he is the nominee he will win the Latino vote, especially against Romney. McCain will get a fair amount of Latino support against anyone he runs against because of his immigration record. If it's Romney I can see us taking 75% of the Latino vote nationally.

9. Hispanics love Hillary, much of it is due to their love for Bill Clinton.
He is a hero in the community, and she has proved herself to be one as well with them.

11. Bull
There isn't any evidence of that. Obamites need to stop blaming every loss he suffers on racism or rigged voting machines.

4. Hilary made a campaign appearance in San Diego, the closest major city to the border,
and the largest voting block in California. Obama skipped visiting San Diego, which I believe was a strategic mistake.

If you want Latino votes, you should go where the most Latinos are.
