59. Yeah, of course I remember what a joke is.
But an unnecessary war is not funny in the least bit to me. And our elected leaders supporting this war is even less of a joke. Sorry that I didn't appreciate your quip.

Now, I know that Obama didn't vote against this war since he wasn't a senator yet at the time, but I certainly did appreciate his statements against it.

17. I agree. When a presidential candidate is speaking somewhere, people should gather if only...
... to see history.

I remember being just a kid when Spiro Agnew spoke at a park in downtown Wilmington, Delaware. There were lots of people and I seem to remember a lot of protestors. But it was cool!

30. "To see history"?
Is that what you think "history" is? A selection of celebrity events?

Go ask your grandfather, or go find the oldest person you know and ask her what she used to do when she got up in the morning...ask what school was like, what her friends hoped for, what they got, what they feared. Ask what they wore and where they liked to go. Ask what they ate. Write it down because soon it will be lost forever. THAT's where history is.

48. Hi, aquart. My family is lucky in a lot of ways politically. One of my
grandmothers was a LaFollette socialist. My paternal grandparents were FDR Democrats.

Not all, but a good deal of their progeny went strong for John Kennedy against Nixon in 1960. What a strange time that was for them, I suppose. Nixon with his snarling scowling dark squinting corpse-like vibe and Kennedy the brash liberal intellectual from back east, etc.

An aunt and uncle split sharply over that race. One went one to be a steadily-returning delegate to Democratic conventions, the other a county chair for the Republicans, and although they were worlds apart on political ideology, they among their huge group of siblings were the two who were closest and had the most fun together. What a great gift that was to my cousins and me growing up to see grownups in fierce disagreement look so forward to each other's company.

54. I was at San Jose rally yesterday
There were 500 people in line when we got there 3 hours before she spoke. They closed the doors and filled to capacity at before she started speaking. Capacity was around 4,000. This was a last-minute rally, mentioned in a tiny 1" column near the back of the newspaper in the town where I live, the day of the rally. Even so, 4,000 people in the middle of the day, standing in the rain. I'd say it was 60%-40% women to men. Lots of men, in small groups. Women in pairs. Women with daughters. Many men who brought their small daughters. Some couples. Multi-racial--many Hispanics, followed by Whites, then Asians, then Blacks. All ages, although fewer elderly than any other group. I was surprised.

What I noticed most about them was that they seemed grounded, down-to-earth, and quite sane. When the rallies start, people have been waiting for 2-3 hours, and shouting out support and cheering, so we are all tired when the rally starts. Still, we cheer like maniacs. It was great. She was absolutely wonderful. Her intelligence is layers and layers deep on every single issue.

Break the highest glass ceiling in the world... vote Hillary '08 (and give Obama 8 more years to get close to JFK's experience level--Obama in 2016!).
