I think a Kerry/Tubbs-Jones ticket would be a real winner in 2004.
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones of Ohio:
http://www.house.gov/tubbsjonesHere's why:
- she's ideologically progressive
- she could help Kerry win Ohio
- she could help mobilize black voter turnout, including in the South
- she could help mobilize the women's vote
- she would energize the progressive voter base
Many progressive voters are still very upset at Kerry for voting for the Patriot Act and IWR. I think Tubbs-Jones would really go a long way toward rallying this important bloc of voters around Kerry.
You may be thinking, "There's no way America would accept a black woman as VP" or "She's too liberal for moderate voters"...but consider this - -
Look at the choice voters will have:
For PREZ:
Kerry or Bush
For VP:
Tubbs-Jones or Cheney
Tubbs-Jones would easily take down Cheney in the VP debates. She's a former prosecuter, and took the lead in congressional prosecution of Jim Traficant. Bush/Cheney are pandering to the Extreme Right-Wing, so by comparison, a Kerry/Tubbs-Jones ticket would look extremely moderate.
I think it's a winning strategy for the General Election...pulling in leftists and progressives without alienating them, while hanging on to moderate and Independent voters.
Is there anyone lurking here who works for the Kerry campaign, who could pass these points along to the higher-ups?
