But at least he was talking about a "real" Messiah. Besides, hope is frosting on shit - can't have hope without the despair that it resides upon, and I don't have any despair and won't be wanting any in the foreseeable future, tnx.

Anyway, when did this election come down to faith? I thought it was about the issues and the candidates experience.

15. Obama is feeding the negative racial tension in the democratic party
if Obama had spoken up when Clinton called his Iraq war stand a fairy tale and said it was not a racist comment but a political one, then we would have never gotten into this racial crap! Obama figured he would gain the black vote by making Clinton look as though he made a racial slam on Obama... he never said anything... Michelle made speeches about how they had over come this sort of thing feeding the media and its racial bullshit! Obama is no more of a uniter than Bush!!!!

The amount of anger at Obama's destruction of the Dem party for his personal cynical gain and his obvious right leaning positions that are unexamined by his supporters and the press is gigantic among older(the truly liberal) Dems.

This is not known because they generally don't participate in this type of forum.

35. I respect everyone's right to vote
for the candidate of their choice, but I would hope that they make that choice based on something other than a promise to "unite us".

No person can unite us. There are very deeply felt beliefs in this country that divide us. Obama will not and cannot, any more than any of the other candidates can, make those issues go away.

Is Obama going to convince the radical religious right to cease and desist with their opposition to abortion? Gay marriage? Stem cell research? Is he going to convince the left to give up it's desire for legal abortion, gay marriage and government supported stem cell research? NO HE IS NOT

If you vote for Obama at least vote for him for something he might possibly be able to do...otherwise you're deluding yourself and doing the country a grave disservice.

57. You unite people by not drawing a line in the sand
You're never going to unite the people on the far left or the far right. That's not what his candidacy is about. It's about bringing people who are independent and in the middle to our side. He realizes that by labeling and demonizing people you wind up creating two halves when what really exists are many different aspects to our political scene. Most people in America aren't as opinionated as your average DUer. With the right negotiation skills and the proper packaging of a message you can achieve a lot. I find that when I talk with people in bars or at parties or wherever I can usually get them to agree with me by not taking such a confrontational attitude to them. That is Barack Obama's style and I think that it is what America needs right now.

I choose who to vote for president based on their qualifications and experience to do the job. I don't like people who are too smooth, who talk in generalities and make empty promises. Obama is a great speaker, but IMO he's not ready to be president and I don't give a flying fig if the Lord himself comes down and endorses him!!!!!!

This isn't the Lord of the Rings where all of the evil is encapsulated and can someday be defeated. We're a huge country that represents a lot of ideas. The idea that somehow we can erradicate red from the political map is crazy. The best we can do is turn parts of it purple. If we can change a few minds/votes to dems then that's how we'll win.

I think obama does have some uniting ability, but the media will divide the country by race. lets face it, the race card came into the race after hillary won new hampshire, and the MEDIA said it was because of racism. The way the media talks about who blacks and hispanics supports in this race will be done for Obama's general campaign and policies.

He will appeal to both sides. Hillary won't. They'll both make ok presidents, but there's no way this country is going to vote in hillary in the general election. The republican base will be galvanized, and even some democrats won't vote for her
