I voted for a Democrat for the first time in my life tonight.
I was a nominal Republican until very recently and voted the GOP Party line. Over the past ten years, Republican politics has become increasingly disgusting to me. The final straw was ol' Dumbya's war on Iraq, when I finally woke up and saw what a lying, son-of-a-beeatch he really is. As soon as I could, I VERY ANGRILY changed parties.

Tonight I was proud to cast my vote for Dennis Kucinich. And I'll vote for the eventual Democratic nominee, as well.

4. GOOD FOR YOU
HUG HUG
By the way, did you write to the RNC to tell them this? Perhaps if enough people did they might start thinking again.
Welcome to the bright side!!!

7. Thank you.
From Republican to Kucinich is quite a leap! What do your Republican friends think about shrub? Have you changed any minds?

In any case, we need more like you.

17. It was coming down the pipes.
I really didn't feel my values "jived" with Republicans. I've been a feminist for years and couldn't stand my father's and brother's love affair with Rush Limbaugh even when I was a nominal Republican. Also, the Republicans didn't want me:

George H. W. Bush said, "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Well gee, I can't change the fact I don't believe in god. I can't make myself believe in god anymore than I could make myself believe in the Easter Bunny. I don't have a problem with liberal religionists, but more and more I see how very dangerous religious fundamentalism can be.

Also, I became disabled and got a first-person perspective on how poor people are treated. The GOP's views on the poor and disabled are repugnant.

These things set me up for a change. Then Shrubya started (continued?) lying. I noticed. I also noticed that the mainstream media wasn't providing any alternative views at all! This scared the bejesus out of me, so I started sniffing around on the Internet. Once I learned Powell lied about the so-called "proof" there were WMD in Iraq, I got really, really pissed. Looking back on Powell's speech, it's hard for me to believe I ever took him seriously. It was like, "This kind of truck is used for chemical weapons" or some such rubbish. I only bought it because he was supposed to be trustworthy. So much for that idea!

Nothing pisses me off more than hypocrisy and lying! Finding out just how big a lying hypocrite Bush is...well, IT SENT ME INTO ORBIT!!!

No, I haven't convinced anyone but myself. :( This thinking thing can be really lonely. I'm still surrounded by Republican fundies. It gets hard sometimes. :(

23. So glad to welcome you!
And, your choice of Dennis was a wise one. You won't regret that vote!

I, also, am on disability, and am in fear of what I see. I'm glad you saw the light, although I wish it hadn't come in such a painful way for you. sigh..... If there's any justice, those who are causing all the misery will taste it themselves!

I'm afraid that I don't have much hope that things will improve much under Kerry. I just don't...

Kanary, with a friendly wave to Ladyhawk

Another Delusional Diehard for Dennis!!

Kucinich 2004!

THAT'S what going to put us over! It won't be enough to simply get more people like Ladyhawk, we have to get them out of the closet; to make them feel OK about hating Bush. A commerical featuring ex-Republicians would be great!!!

32. most excellent!
I've run into a number former republicans for Kucinich here in MN. The reality the DK appeals to independents and republicans, as well as democrats is generally lost on party insiders and most DUers. Another reason Kucinich is the most electable democrat; if only the party had the courage to nominate him.
