7. i think so, but he really is very moderate
I'd call him an Eisenhower Republican myself. the last time he voted for a Republican was Bush Sr. in 1988, Perot in '92 then Clinton in '96 (we had been married a year by then) and Gore in '00 and Kerry in '04

He's not a registered Dem so he won't be voting in the Primaries.

the "Contract on America"

he says he figured out then they were a bunch of snake oil salesmen and he says he hasn't been proved wrong since.

20. Are you sure we're not married to the same man?
My husband's father ran Barry Goldwater's campaign in PA. The only difference is that my hubby voted both times for Clinton. Basically he's a fiscal conservative, but liberal/progressive on all the other issues. He's a registered republican, and is deciding which candidate to vote for that will most easily lose to the Dems. Not that it will really matter, since here in PA our primary isn't until April, and it will pretty much be decided by then.

BTW, his old man knew the GHWB and the rest of the clan. Said there was never a Bush born worth his weight in shit!

48. It looks like your hubby stayed in place while the political landscape
was shifting to the right over the years. Give it a few more years and he will be rooting for Dennis Kucinich. By that time there won't be much Left of center to deal with.

now that he's turning 50 this year, he's a lot more compassionate and more liberal but I just can't convince him to listen to himself.

9. not exactly, he has no problem paying taxes, you're correct on the environment
his idea is the Government should protect the borders, keep up the roads and he thinks Universal Healthcare should be a right, not a priveledge.

He thinks the Gov. needs to watch both Big Corporations and Big Labor like a hawk.

14. That's what Canada's "right wing" party used to be called
before they were decimated after Mulroney's run as PM. The PC party eventually merged with the Reform Party under the "Conservative" party banner, and are more conservative than the old PC party.

In the Canadian context a "Progressive Conservative" is generally center-right on economic issues and center on social issues. If that's where your husband is, I'd say he's using the term correctly.

or

but I don't know your husband.

And I think people are really being fooled by Obama ('course I'm mad as hell about his Reagan talk right now). But I have a hard time trusting Hillary because of her corporate ties, her Iran vote and her trust in Colin Powell.

Guess I'd go with Edwards if my primary were today ~ but I'd love to see a brokered convention and a Gore nomination. (Dream on...)

51. In Canada, "Red Tories" were the leftist faction of the Progressive Conservatives
often were even left of the Liberals on some issues. They used to dominate the PC party, before the time of Mulroney, and it's been downhill ever since. Harper's current government would have been unrecognizable 25 years ago.
