Edwards Supporters; Target NPR
I just love people who write letters, and here's a letter from one of my favorite letter writers, Kathy. You remember Kathy, she did the media letter for us a few days ago.

NPR is showing its corporate sponsorship is alive and well...they ran a
story yesterday called "Edwards Ducks Out of Nevada Caucus" by Carrie Kahn. This is
probably a shock to John, who is coming to town on Wednesday! It's probably a shock to
his staffers in Reno, Las Vegas, and Elko, who are working round the clock to help him win
the nomination, and to the hundreds of people canvassing in NV this weekend on
John's behalf!

When contacted, Carrie Kahn claimed she didn't put the headline on her story...Her supervisors
must have made up the headline, in a bow to A.G. Edwards, one of their Wall Street sponsors.

NPR has been terrible in its coverage of John....very slanted and negative.

WE CAN'T STAND STILL FOR THIS!

WE NEED TO CALL, DEMAND A RETRACTION, AND CANCEL OUR NPR MEMBERSHIPS!

Carrie Kahn's phone number--Let's call and demand a retraction:

Or call the listener comment line at (202) 842-5044.

Now, you should know, Kathy is a very nice lady. One of the best human beings out there in the world. So if she does the all caps thing, well, it means something. Call the number and leave a message, or just send a quick e-mail and you're done. Now let's go see if we can shake up NPR a little.

2. Thanks... called and left a message.
NPR is getting worse and worse. Guess that's not so surprising really.

3. Interesting.
Although a Google search came up with the title in the OP, the current title is, "Nevada Next Battleground for Clinton, Obama." The opening sentence in the audio refers to Edwards having low funds and concentrating instead on South Carolina, leaving the race to Clinton and Obama. Edwards was given no other mention.

5. Also, interesting
NYTimes yesterday:

"Mr. Edwards has made 17 trips to the state, roughly the same as Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama combined, Mr. Bonior added."

Kind of odd that someone that has spent that much time there is considered "out of the race".

10. That is correct. A misstep on Edwards's ambitions in Nevada has doomed them.

May they rest in peace.

6. I stopped contributing in 1999
Their coverage of the GATT/NAFTA protests in Seattle was so pro-corporate and biased that I wrote them off and have listened to them rarely since.

9. Not a big fan of NPR
I enjoy it from time to time but I also feel like some of the hosts go *out of their way* to sound as slow, boring and measured as possible.

It's one thing to not yell and scream, but quite another to put me to sleep. But hey, I realize plenty of people out there enjoy slow and boring. :) It's not necessarily the content, although generally when I want news and information it's political in nature, and they often cover topics *I* personally don't find to be especially relevant (to me).

13. Done
My letter:

"The night of the Iowa Caucus, John Edwards accomplished a stunning upset, unexpectedly beating Hillary Clinton (albeit narrowly). In fact, she placed third in Iowa, and Edwards moved up to be one of the two "front runners." So I was astounded to hear NPR's pundits unanimously agree that "it's all over for Edwards." No such remark was made about Clinton. Was that NPR's idea of a joke?

Now we have an NPR story, "Edwards Ducks Out of Nevada Caucus." Edwards is polling very strongly in Nevada, and is actively campaigning there. This is getting ridiculous. Stop the shady tricks and retract the false story. I have lost a great deal of trust in NPR as a result of this."
