Wow, Just seen the Bob Johnson attack on Barack on CNN
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 11:24 PM by itsrobert
Obviously he was talking about Obama's drug use. The Clinton's put out a lie saying he was talking about his community organizing. I'm glad Edwards is above the fray.

1. Falling for the MSM frame once again. It was not an attack.
It was a response.

5. CNN had the video
Sorry, it may of been a response, but it was an attack too.

6. Excuse me?
How does dropping innuendo into a "response" not qualify as an attack?

19. A response to what?
He was making a speech in support of Hillary and just layed it all out there. Within minutes, Hillary's people were trying to clean up his mess. It was an attack...and a particularly slimy one.

4. That was the first time I saw it also. I agree that they are lying when
they tried to come back and say it was about community organizing.

Damn, this is pathetic.

7. What doesn't make sense to me
If it was about community organizing, why couldn't he say that? Why be elusive about what he was doing, unless it was something "bad."

12. The way he said it definitely implied that it was something bad so their spin/lie
just doesn't work at all.

The story doesn't make sense because it isn't true which is perfectly obvious after watching the video.

23. I hope I can catch it tomorrow. They are showing a rerun right now and not news
I want to see it out of curiosity. Even without seeing the video it is very obvious Johnson was alluding to Obama's past drug use. His explanation does not comport with his earlier comments, as many people have pointed out today. I don't think this instance was one of playing the race card but it definitely was intended to bring Obama's past drug use into the headlines again. It will probably get more traction this time because a billionaire who owns a major television channel said it. Shaheen was unknown outside of New Hampshire.

25. It's on CNN
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/01/13/johnson.on.clinton.obama.cnn?iref=videosearch

Go go 8:30 in. It's very clear he what he was referring to and it wasn't community activist.

32. He was referring to it but it was in passing
His explanation about it being about community organizing doesn't make any sense but on the other hand it isn't nearly as bad when you watch the entire ten minutes, not just the ten second clip in question. Was it scripted or did he mention it off-the-cuff in an effort to get a few cheap laughs from the audience?

33. That's what the Clinton campaign said that Johnson was referring to
when he said back in the neighborhood.

"Jay Carson, a Clinton spokesman, said Johnson had made earlier remarks about how Obama was as a community organizer in Chicago neighborhoods while Clinton was active on civil rights issues in Arkansas.

"My comments today were referring to Barack Obama's time spent as a community organizer, and nothing else," Johnson clarified in a later statement. "Any other suggestion is simply irresponsible and incorrect."

15. because it wasn't about community organizing.
besides, dropping 'community organizing' into the sentence would have made the clintons look petty in the first place... as in 'while the Clintons were doing this, Obama was actually hands on out in the community, putting action to his talk'.

so... claiming community organizing is a diss towards the Clinton. it's a 180 from Hillary and Bill's contention that Obama is all talk, no action.

Either way, someone gets dissed; but Johnson meant to dis Obama, not the Clintons.

Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 11:04 PM by jefferson_dem
Interesting exchange there with the CNN anchor, whose name I do not know. Roland said Bob Johnson is full of shit (in so many words) and believes the Clinton folks are trying to goad Obama into a racial showdown while Obama wants to avoid that low road.

Roland is having Bill on his radio show tomorrow and will ask him "straight up"...

They showed a video of Bob's hit on Obama and speculated about what's going on. That's all, really.

38. I said almost the same thing to a friend in an email a day or two ago!
I even used the word "goad!"

I instead say the Clinton folks are trying to goad black folks in general in order to produce a backlash among whites who believes blacks are "overly sensitive" and "pulling the race-card" whether or not Obama becomes involved (although it'll be increasingly hard for him to not be involved if this stuff continues).

21. LOL - "above the fray."
What a nice way to put it. I think I might use that myself: haven't had a date in a few years now, gets a little tough when you're a guy in your late 30s without money or a wide social circle. But I'm not a loser, it's not that I'm not a babe magnet, it's not that I'm a nobody on the dating scene: I'm "above the fray!" Strangely comforting, that.

31. excellent campaign speech in support
of Clinton. Maybe I missed something, are people implying the founder of BET, who has done more for black America than any local "community organizer", whatever that is, is a racist and this is a racist attack on Obama. I think not, it is rather a comparison of who has accomplished more

Bob Johnson may have done more for black America than any local "community organizer" but definitely not in a positive sense.
