What kind of health care do members of congress/mayors/govs get?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:30 PM by K8-EEE
When I was watching all these GOPers last night on Faux talking about needing more "privately insured" blah blah blah I was thinking, didn't they all benefit from gov-issued healthcare in their jobs? Since they can afford any healthcare they want (not like most of us!) why didn't they opt out of it and go to that "best in the world" system we see in Sicko?

Does Giuliani think the average man his age who is a cancer survivor as he is could afford to go "shopping" for private insurance?

The most stupid answer was from Ole Man Fred saying people don't "shop around" enough for things like MRIs. Well duh when you have one you are experiencing some kind of health crisis by definition, like you're going to go shopping for cheapo med services like you're buying a pound of potatoes or something?

They just seem like they don't live in the real world AT ALL. I really think at least half of the families are one medical crisis away from absolute financial ruin.

1. If you shop right
you can get a good deal on heart surgery at Wal-Mart. And if ya wanna a reall bargain look for long term care for an aging parent.

4. John Kerry said he wanted everyone to have the same
health care he received as a member of the Senate.

He didn't assume that people had the same access to help that his money provided.

That we are willing to spend the money we do on instruments of death and destruction and begrudge people access to even the most Basic of health care will speak tomes about our country's failure to ensure everyone's 'right' to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I'm ashamed of our stubborn, greed, and prejudice about this issue.

5. Did you notice that they all used the example of a family with an
annual income of $100,000.00 when they spoke about private health insurance and the tax credits that you could receive from paying premiums? Look at these income figures for 2006:

In 2006, the median annual household income according to the US Census Bureau was determined to be $48,201.00.<3> The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) in the year 2006 was $26,036.<4> In the year 2005, there were approximately 113,146,000 households in the United States. 19.01% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $100,000,<5> 12.7% fell below the federal poverty threshold<6> and the bottom 20% earned less than $23,202.<7> The aggregate income distribution is highly concentrated towards the top, with the top 6.37% earning roughly one third of all income, and those with upper-middle incomes control a large, though declining, share of the total earned income.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States

They are so out of touch with reality, they have no idea how much private insurance costs, the hoops you have to go through to get the treatment you need and the unavailability of insurance to those with pre-existing conditions. They live in a fairy tale world where everyone is rich and healthy.

7. No I didn't notice that!! THANKS FOR POINTING IT OUT....
They kind of do this blurting-out-the-numbers thing and I'm like, huh??? Very interesting.....

all I know is that they seemed like "oh, we'll just let the free market fix this!" and it seemed like they didn't have the foggiest clue what it was like to be an AVERAGE American facing a medical crisis in BushCo America, I mean NOT A CLUE!
