Edwards Makes His Case to NH Voters
Edwards Makes His Case to NH Voters
By Charles Baington--Associated Press
Friday, January 4, 2008

----
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards implored New Hampshire voters Friday to repudiate the Iowa caucus results and vote for a candidate "who will fight for the middle class" against corporate interests that he accuses of moving jobs overseas and making health care expensive.

Edwards, who narrowly edged out Hillary Rodham Clinton for second place behind winner Barack Obama in Iowa, said New Hampshire voters "now have two choices," implying Clinton is out of the running. Without naming his rivals, Edwards suggested he would wage a populist agenda more energetically than would Obama as he addressed about 300 campaign workers and supporters at a dawn rally in Manchester.

Edwards and his advisers saw Iowa's results as a clear call for political change in America after two terms under President Bush. Their goal is to focus the choice between Edwards and Obama, and then portray Obama as too tepid and conciliatory.

The key question, he said here, is "are we willing to fight the corporate greed that has an iron-fisted grip on our democracy?"

New Hampshire's primary on Tuesday is crucial to Edwards' and Clinton's hopes of slowing Obama's momentum. Edwards' challenge is especially tough because he has less money than the other two.

The former North Carolina senator tried to negate that disadvantage Friday. "We're not going to have an auction," he said, "we're going to have an election in four days."

Saying he had faced two well-funded "celebrity candidates" in Iowa, Edwards said he is not the candidate of money, glitz or glamor, but instead "the people's candidate."

"I am the candidate who will fight with every fiber of my being, every single step of the way, for you, for your children and for your grandchildren," he said to cheers from an audience that included more campaign workers than ordinary voters, and many non-New Hampshire residents.

My husband has traveled a lots around N.H. and he tells me they are differnt from the people in Iowa. Maybe these people will see what the corporate news media is doing to Edwards and stand tall letting them know that they aren't going to pick another President of the United States for us, all the media is hollowing is Edwards is out because of little in funds, if they even give him a word. Heck he beat Hillary that spent somewhere aroudnd 9 million as Obama did and then got about the same in coverage from CNN alone, and then came in third. What does some of the media owe Bill Clinton, I am starting to think they owe his something. Just an old woman that supported Clintons, opion.

While, I think the Obama win last night was fucking beautiful as a historical moment in our country's history. I have to remember that it was John Edwards who had the true message of change for a very long time. We all know that we need proper health care in this country, that we need to save our jobs going overseas, that we need to bind the overreaching power of the corporations who George Bush have let run amok in this country. I know that Edwards will make the true change needed in this country and he knows that it won't be easy and he knows that he will have to knock a few heads along the way to put things right but that is the spirit of a true fighter. I'm with Edwards all the way.

Here is a great excerpt of a MLK speech (who also was a fighter and wasn't a man to compromise to status quo):

"We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of NOW. THIS IS NO TIME TO ENGAGE IN THE LUXURY OF COOLING OFF OR TAKE THE TRANQUILIZING DRUG OF GRADUALISM. NOW is the time to make real the promises of democracy."

12. There's a reason why corporate driven MSM is ignoring Edwards.
He's the people's candidate, the only one who knows the issues & what to do about them. Returning power to the people in this country is urgent.

Edwards all the way! NH is too smart not to realize the importance of his nomination!

13. I just heard, with disbelief, a NH voter being interviewed saying that
she had "been for Edwards but now, after the Obama rally, I'm for Obama because Edwards is too entrenched in Washington." Say what??

I did notice that Obama's speech today sounded more and more like Edwards', with a few lines nearly word for word. Also, I've been watching MSNBC and you wouldn't think Edwards is even running.. there is absolutely no discussion of him. The deck is stacked. Other candidates are co-opting his message. I think its supremely unfair.
