Hillary's retooled stump speech
January 04, 2008

Clinton: "Especially for young Americans"

Obama's stunning margin among young people, including young women, won him Iowa, and Hillary's retooled stump speech, rolled out in a hangar in Nashua, signals bluntly that she knows she needs to combat that.

"This is especially about all of the young people in new Hampshire who need a president who won’t just call for change or a president who won’t just demand change but a president who will produce change," she said. "I’m running for president to reclaim the future — the future for all of us, of all ages, but especially for young Americans."

The question that remains: How?

1. Young people are not going to flock to her. She can try , but the
gray-haired crowd is her best bet.

2. She just confirmed one of her greatest criticisms.
That line obviously came out of a clueless consultant's mouth.

4. She can try but she will not get the youth vote.
There's more to it than words - has to do with inspiration; motivating young people to care about this country and making them realize they can be a force for change. That sort of thing can't happen in 4 days by "retooling" a stump speech.
