"Huckabee will still beat Romeny. Huckabee is a principaled man with only a couple flaws"
Thought I'd do a little temperature check on Huckabee at FreepCentral. I DELIBERATELY OMITTED THE LINK, so that the "Why post that shit HERE" people can have a nice day.

To: Tossup

Huckabee will still beat Romeny. This is the type of stuff that we posted on Free Republic prior to the 2006 slaughter the Republicans took in the congressional elections. We would find some crazy poll or wish for some trend and even Sean Hannity was talking upbeat that we may even keep both houses. But in the end it was just what it was.

The good thing for mywife and I is that we actually already voted for Huckabee with our absentee ballots in Michigan. Huckabee is a principaled man with only a couple flaws (I hope he is a little more hawkish on immigration). Unlike Flip Romney and Feingold McCainnedy (Feingold/ Kennedy) and super lib Guiliani.

1. I'm sitting here watching this Hucking Moran on MTP and literally
became ill. This freeper in a suit is one scary sumbitch. I'd regurgitate some of his major points, but I had to wash my brain. I don't know whether to root for this holier-than-thou bigot to flame out and die in Iowa or whether to root for his Freepin Base to push him through to the Generals, where we will wipe the Biblical floor with him.

3. He's so crazy I can't believe he's still in the game
From his dog-hanging son to his need to prove his masculinity by shotting things, I'd lean toward rooting for him. It would be a sweet and easy victory in November. I'd love to see news footage of the sad faces in various "Huckabee Campaign Headquarters" across the U.S. after the announcement of his defeat.

You'd think that the evangelicals would have learned their lesson with Bush, but no...they head straight to the loony bin and yank out Preacher Mike.

:silly:

2. "Principaled" = "batshit crazy"
Such is the state of popular conservative thought.

6. What is the matter with freepers? They're not even normal Republicans.
They chose that over a war hero and a statesman? It's just bizarre.

7. They went straight for the God card...
...their real candidate of choice is Fred, but we all know how that one's progressing. Huckabee rose only after Fred took his first extended nap.

8. There are real, observant Catholic Republicans in my extended family.
I don't think they could listen to the Reverend with a straight face, let alone vote for him.

11. I'm Catholic and I just see Huckabee as crazy.
I think one of the first mistakes people make when sizing up conservative and / or Christian voters is that there's some form of agreement, of consensus, that there's a "chosen one." For some people that might very well be true. For me, it's not.

I remember the 2004 election and my church very, very clearly. There is an "Intentions" portion of the Mass in which we are asked to pray for certain things, and during several Masses we were encouraged to "Pray for the wisdom to elect leaders who respect the rights of the unborn."

It was a pretty clear message: George W. Bush is anti-abortion, John Kerry kills babies.

I do have hard-line conservative Catholic friends who, upon hearing Kerry's name, would IMMEDIATELY respond "He's pro-abortion!"

Pro-choice and pro-abortion aren't necessarily the same thing, but that's how Kerry was positioned in the Catholic church (at least my church).

Chrisians make another fatal mistake, and it's that they believe anyone who steps up and says "I'm a Christian." They don;t go below the surface to the content and character of that person. Huckabee was a Baptist preacher, so that makes him a good guy. Then you peel the onion and see all of the skeletons in the closet, but the challenge is getting Christians who are impressed with Huckabee to PEEL the onion. Some will, some won't.

So believe it or not, this stuff is just as frustrating for me as it is for an atheist, agnostic, or any other non-Catholic. Huckabee's crazy. I get it. Many of my friends do not.
