Who was the first presidential candidate who was publicly discussing Pakistan...
and how critical the situation is there? I suspect everyone reading this knows the answer. Yet now all the candidates are suddenly experts on Pakistan. The point isn't that Joe Biden made a lucky guess regarding how imperative it is that the US develop a better, more comprehensive strategy toward Pakistan. The point is that Joe Biden knows the national and international landscape better than any other candidate and has specific, detailed positions on virtually every major issue concerning our country, positions that he's been developing over a long period of time. As the other candidates are quick to mention, Joe is right, and more often so than the other candidates.

Certainly there are positions taken by a 35 year career senator that you can disagree with, that's inevitable, but here's the point: on the challenges we're currently facing both here and abroad Joe Biden holds strong, well-developed approaches that are consistent with the most fundamental core values of the Democratic Party and has the most polished, time-tested skills to get the things done that need getting done. If Democrats want to see their agenda enacted, Joe Biden is the one candidate who will not be a gamble. Nominate Joe Biden and the Democrats will have the next president. Nominate Joe Biden and the Democrats will see their agenda moved further forward than with any other potential nominee, because Joe Biden has the skills, the grit, the network, the honesty, and the passion to get things done. He knows how. We can either give our Party, and our nation, a monumental lift that it so sorely needs, or we can shoot craps and cross our fingers. It's up to us.

"Career" politicians are behind all are problems, lets see the last 35 yrs have seen some of the worst laws / taxes / special interest, pork barrel projects / etc - and he has been there the whole time.

3. I take it you're for Romney who, besides being a politician, was a business man.
To each their own. If I break my leg I want someone who knows what they're doing to set it. If my car breaks down I won't be hiring a baker to repair. If I want my a hair cut I won't be going to visit my Uncle Don, a retired insurance company man. You're post hints at something, but says nothing. You don't make a valid argument for any candidate, nor a valid argument against Sen. Biden. It's like saying Charlie Parker wasn't a good sax player because he'd played for too long. Sorry, but the "he's too experienced" argument is fatuous and serves no purpose in constructive discourse. But, hey, it's a free country, and you're always free to show the world what you're made of.

2. yes! For all Clinton's claims of experience...
she really doesn't have that much to compare with Joe.

Joe KNOWS the situation, and if the Repubs try to push foreign policy in the general, Joe would eat them alive.

with bin Laden and the core of al Qaeda as residents lost in the mix is pretty important stuff. But that's just one man's opinion.

he's a part of the inside the beltway problem. Not to DQ him from VP> He'd be a nice fit

11. Why do you want someone who's "part of the... problem as vp?
I take it you believe Obama is not part of the problem because he's only been there 2 years. At what point does he, too, become part of the problem, after 4 years? 6 years? Do you really expect to sell the idea to America that the less experience the better? I wonder how that argument will hold up if McCain gets the Republican nomination? Maybe the question will be posed something like this, if Pakistan's nuclear arsenal falls into the hands of Islamic extremists, would America be safer in the hands of someone completely green on foreign policy? Good luck.

34. Sounds like the swill Obama's been preaching to me....
it's his way of selling his lack of experience, as if everyone in DC is part of the problem, and we know that's just not true. Nope, this is the way he convinced people to vote for him.

Oh, did I mention that Biden doesn't even live in DC, and that he goes home everynight, hence, not a part of the beltway? oh,, I'm sure you meant just the simple fact that he workd there, makes him a beltway insider.

I'm not falling for that.

As Pakistan was founded in 1947, during Truman's administration, I would guess Truman was the first one discussing it.

http://www.jang.com.pk/thenews/spedition/liaqat_ali_khan/page2.htm.html

"Pakistan's Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was the first elected head of Government of a Muslim State who I invited to pay an official visit to the United States of America in May 1950 and he and his wife, Begum Ra'ana Liaquat Ali Khan, made an excellent impression on us". These words were uttered by ex-President Harry S Truman when I interviewed him on October 5, 1957, in Kansas city while touring the USA under its government's Leader Exchange Programme.

35. Oh...well, do not mistake Joe Biden for Hillary Clinton.
Joe Biden lives his values. He's worth about $150,000. He commutes back and forth from Washington, D.C. every day so that he can go home to his family. He's never invested in stocks to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest. He doesn't deal with lobbyists. He's suffered some very serious personal tragedies so he doesn't have to "feel your pain" because he's got enough of his own. He's a straight shooter and doesn't have all the ethically questionable activities swirling about him like Hillary, or even Barack Obama. He's a regular Joe who has done a great job serving our country and has learned a lot along the way. Joe Biden's experience is valuable to America.

on Pakistan and why was it Sen. Biden, not Kucinich, who felt the need to underscore the importance of Pakistan during the debates, if it was such a pressing matter to Kucinich, when all the other candidates were discussing Iran?
