It's a serious question.

1. Would you hire a plumber, or electrician, or heart surgeon, or CEO
most of whose experience was having been married to a plumber, or electrician, or heart surgeon, or CEO?

6. Just as silly
Since this would be relevant only if the plumber heart surgeon or CEO had included them in the workings of the job for many years.

Metaphors and analogies only work when they are relevant.

2. How is a plumber or heart surgeon etc supposed to become experienced
If nobody will hire them after one year? Somebody has to be every surgeon's first living patient. You surely trust their experience and education and the skills of their mentors and trainers.

5. surgeons have residency periods
"on the job training"

Bush had that too and Cheney was his mentor.

It turned out great, don't you think?

9. Stupid metaphor stretched even more stupidly
Unless you can think of something that applies, just say what you think and stop trying to be cute. It's not like such transparent sophomorisms are thought-provoking or original.

Anyone who thinks such jobs are comparable is an idiot. Nobody CAN have more than entry-level journeyman exeperience at being president (8 years at most), and nobody can have any at all the first time they are elected. Being a Senator or even a Governor is no more or less experience for the presidency than being an activist or leader of a charitable organization or corporation. It's not thatthe basic responsibilities of the job aren't easily grasped by a ten year old. The rest is all in charisma, decision making skills, and the ability to lead and manage people. There are numerous wasy to gather, and demonstrate, these skills.

27. Bring back Jimmy Carter!
All other living Democrats would either require "on the job training" or are not eligible to run for the office.

31. Honestly
In general, I think a lot of people here get caught up in the passion of supporting a candidate without looking closely at their candidates "cons" as well as their "pros".

4. Depends on how hard they work, and how good the work is.
Obama is a much better plumber, electrician, heart surgeon, CEO than Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney.

Rumsfeld and Cheney have plenty of experience.

And they both suck.

I don't care HOW much time Obama has spent in WASHINGTON.

He's been a public servant and in public life for A LOT more than one year.

17. So should Tony Blair run for President...
I mean, seriously, there is no previous job qualification that prepares one for being the head of state -- other than being the head of state in another country. So may Blair or Howard should be our candidate.

I'm not even a Hillary supporter, and I find your question offensive and patent stupid in equal measures.
