New ARG poll: McCain back from the dead (leading NH, #2 in IA)
http://americanresearchgroup.com/

Despite his age, his Bush-fellating, and his pro-war stance, I think he's got the best shot of any of their candidates (which, admittedly, says more about that pack of chuckleheads than it does about McCain). Anyway, the numbers, for your viewing pleasure:

IA: Huckabee 28, McCain 20, Romney 17, Giuliani 13, Thompson 5, Paul 4.
NH: Walnuts 26, Multiple Choice 26, Ghoul 16, Huckster 11, Grandpa Fred 4, Stormfront's Choice 4.

2. It's beginning to look like McCain's going to be the RW choice,
I don't know whether that's good or bad for our side yet.

21. If Hillary is the nominee the new Survey USA and Iowa Poll says she loses badly to McCain
Obama beats McCain however in both! Hillary is far less electable -- especially against McCain.

29. Hillary vs. McCain or Rudy and it's curtains for us
I still don't see McCain winning. The base hates the guy. There are a lot of games yet to be played on their side. They took him out eight years ago, and I think they'll do it again.

6. I'm torn.
Its a "complicated" scandal for voters (no sex or bribes involved) to digest but with Rudy going down in flames as "tainted" and Huckabee rising to the top as the "clean" candidate, it could be a factor.

9. Well, I think Hucky would be easier to beat than McCrazy, but if either of
them was going to be Preznit (through some terrible turn of events), I'd rather it be McCrazy. So I'm torn too.

4. I'm telling you McCain is the big threat and if he puts Hucklberry...
in the VP spot we're in deep doo doo. He'll have the fundies, independents, and a large segment of the latino vote locked up.

A McCain/Romney ticket would be pretty awful too, but I don't see Mitt taking the co-pilot's seat.

I don't think Romney adds to any ticket ....
Many people see him as he really is a flip-flopping, pandering, inauthentic Anchorman. Besides, his religion will REALLY hurt him. Once christians learn about the major beliefs of Mormonism they begin to get angry and call it a cult.

But you're right, McCain/Huckabee is an '08 nightmare for US but I would love to see those freeptards' heads explode. They hate them both!

Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 03:15 PM by AndyTiedye
How long would McCain last as President?

A heartbeat away from the Presidency is WAY too close to EVER let the Huckster get. Especially when that heart to would be the oldest ever to be that position.

22. Are you kidding? McCain is perfect for NH
He won there last time he ran for president. He appears to be independent, a straight-talker. They love that shit in NH. Actually, he's almost perfect for NH; Ron Paul is actually the one who's perfect for NH. Huge libertarian streak in the state.

25. Its going to go like this
Huckabee and Romney 1 and 2 in Iowa
Romney and Mcain 1 and 2 in NH

Support for Thompson switches to Huckabee and Romney
Support for Guilani switches to McCain and Romney, but mostly to Romney.

Huckabee and Romney are the leaders and McCain hangs on for awhile.

Romney wins in the end.

32. McCain's polling is rising through the field of mediocre-to-godawful competition.
I'm not sure a pro-war candidate will fare as well in 2008 unless there's some kind of really dramatic turnaround in Iraq, which doesn't seem that likely.

I hope McCain v. Huckabee becomes a point of irreconcilable discord for the GOP this year, pulling them in at least 2 different directions and weakening their scaffolding.

33. It kinda makes sense...
McCain is inconsistent and kind of a basket case, but he doesn't have nearly as many negatives in an election as the other GOP candidates do.

Giuliani = Crossdressing Italian from New York
Romney = Mormon robot
Huckabee = Fundy with a weird name

I think the fundy thing is actually a negative for a GOP presidential candidate. The GOP exploits Christian fundies to win elections, but they have no intention of actually letting them near the levers of power. Bans on porn and abortion are kind of bad for business. John Ashcroft's AG appointment was the highest position they would give to a serious fundy. With that in mind, McCain seems like the top GOP choice, maybe with Huck as a figurehead VP. A ticket like that wouldn't alienate any of the major GOP voter groups like Romney or the Ghoul would.

34. Agree with you -- the fundies are a drag on the GOP ticket in 08.
They can't win without some significant percentage of independents, and Huckabee is not going to attract many independent voters, IMO.

And he's likely to appall progessives of any stripe.

The fundie nutbags just plain hate McCain. They haven't liked him for some time now, and they're going to be conflicted if he's the nominee, but you are exactly right that he has fewer negatives (from their point of view) than Rudy or Willard.

This ought to have been a real opportunity for Half-Dead Fred Thompson, but he hardly seems interested in his own campaign.

If the Pukes had a brain -- which they most certainly do not -- they'd run a John Danforth/Rob Portman ticket.

That would be a problem for us.
