Big Iowa Endorsement for Edwards?
By Bill Scher--Huffington Post
Friday, December 15, 2007

----
On today's edition of The LiberalOasis Radio Show on WHMP in Western Mass., Glenn Hurowitz, author of the new book, "Fear and Courage in the Democratic Party," reported that former Sen. John Edwards would receive a big endorsement next week:

I talked to a major statewide leader with a large following ... I can't say his name yet, but he told me that he's going to endorse Edwards next week. And I think that could really a significant difference. So I think we're on the cusp of an

Big endorsements (Al Gore, Sen. Tom Harkin, SEIU and AFSCME) did not seal the deal for Howard Dean in the 2004 Iowa caucuses, leading many to question their value in the modern era.

But with Edwards often squeezed out of the media spotlight in favor of Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, a major endorsement could change the media dynamic.

6. I thought I read that Harkin wasn't going to endorse anyone.
Not that it wouldn't be HUGELY welcome.

7. I can't imagine it would be Harkin. His wife endorsed Hillary.
He was stung by his endorsement of Dean in '04. He said he wouldn't endorse this time around.

8. I think that there's some over lap between Edwards '08 folks and
Harkin '92.

I volunteered for Harkin in '92 and went to a fund raiser for him a year ago. Lots of folks were talking about Edwards. Many of Harkin's followers were real populists, as is Harkin himself. However, if his wife endorsed Hillary, I think things are questionable.

I'm pretty much out of the loop and have no inside info.

9. So Obama supporters will have to wait a week to find out which Iowa Dem to call a senile republican?

I guess the screeds can be written in advance, and the name filled in at the last minute.

If it's Harkin, congratulations to Edwards.

10. I've heard rumors before about First Lady Culver
Apparently the Culvers are close with Edwards, and Edwards helped him big in his gubanatorial campaign.

13. Stephanopolous mentioned the Iowa Governor or his wife. Edwards would not say.

14. I hope it is Gov. Culver - he is very popular in Iowa!!
"I talked to a major statewide leader with a large following. I can't say his name yet, but he told me that he's going to endorse Edwards next week. And I think that could really a significant difference. So I think we're on the cusp of an Edwards surge."
