| I Liked This Board Better When We Were Bashing Republicans |
 |
It was a lot more fun...They are the enemies, not other Democrats... They are the ones who:
- want to end affirmative action
- want to eliminate a woman's right to choose
- want to ensure gay folks are treated as second class citizens
- want to make sure that health care isn't available to all regardless of the ability to pay
- want a bellicose foreign policy
- want to immediately send back home all undocumented workers regardless of how long they have been here and how productive they are
And in the immortal words of Colonel Frank Slade "I'm just getting started."
Bashing Republicans is fun, bashing Democrats isn't...

I hope everbody reads those posts... I hope to fucking God everybody reads those posts... I said I never attacked another candidate and never started negative threads about other Democrats ... If somebody disses me I will diss them back, on the net and in real life... I don't walk around with a "kick me sign" on my ass...
I usually avoid you because I know a discussion would descend into this... Well, the battle is engaged... I'm not backing down... I would literally rather get a cap in my ear then back down...

Not even in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that we would see Hillary dressed in a Nazi uniform on DEMOCRATIC underground. But indeed we did see that graphic. They can spread the hate, lies, innuendo, etc, etc etc till the cows come home. I still fully intend to contribute, work for, and most importantly, VOTE for her. What some of "these people" have done is convince me once again not to vote for Anybody BUT Clinton...take care...and ignore the ignorant.

Bashing one of the only three full two term Democratic presidents in the entire twentieth century is not fun at all...

Bashing the president who got a standing ovation at the United Nations is not fun at all...
Bashing the president who brought peace to Northern Ireland is not fun at all...
Bashing the president who almost brokered a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine is not fun at all...
Bashing the president who tried to end discrimination against gays in the armed forces is not fun at all...
Bashing the president who presided over the longest economic expansion in the history of the republic is not fun at all...
Bashing the president who brought African American and Hispanic unemployment to their lowest levels in history is not fun at all...
But I'm glad that's your definition of fun, I think...

What I most dislike, though, is when arguments get personal. I think it's quite possible to disagree and to argue without it turning into insults -- especially since we're all presumably going to be on the same side in terms of evicting the GOP.

That said, I don't like the way people get crazy one way or the other about HC, even though she is my least favorite. It IS important to support the candidate that best represents your values, especially during primaries. The problem is that there are people around who intend to do other candidates harm by claiming to be supporters, and maybe even wearing a candidate's name as an avatar on this board, but then they actually are out to do that candidate, or the Democratic party, harm by destructive interactions on this board. GLBT: Has she repudiated Don't Ask Don't Tell? Immigrants: She backed off DLs for New York undocumented workers pretty fast. Affirmative action: I really don't know. I've never heard her mention it, one way or the other.

Universal health care: Her plan is not universal. You're right. And no one but Kucinich supports single payer at this time. Her proposal is not merely a giveaway to big insurance. Try reading it.
Affirmative action: She's always supported it.

As I said, I know that she's strongly pro-choice (and I consider 'pro-abortion' to be a subtle RW attempt at slander, as nobody is really pro-abortion - it's always an unfortunate circumstance which nobody willingly chooses). At the same time, I would not be surprised if she did vote 'yea' on either of them, if they were clearly going to pass anyway and she owed someone a favor, or she wanted to bolster a particular constitutency. That's how it is done in the senate. After all, that's the excuse I've heard for her Iran vote from some parties.
BTW, just what issues DON'T you support her on? You keep saying that, but somehow I always miss those posts.

I don't support her because of her vote for the IWR. I don't support her because I don't trust her on issues relating to corporate power and influence. I've started threads to that effect. I've written hundreds of posts to that effect. I guess the people who are so busy turning her into a bogeywoman, can only see the posts I write defending her from their absurd bullshit. Do a search.

Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 07:06 PM by NCevilDUer
I simply mis-read it, and in these parts pro-abortion is such a common RW catch-phrase that everyone I know avoids even the hint of it in 'pro-abortion rights'. Besides, pro-choice is less clumsy and is more succinct and accurate, to my mind, so I have become habituated to that phrase.
I've tended to avoid the Obama drug threads, mostly because they wind up being shouting matches between Obama and Hillary supporters, and I still can't see much of a difference between them.
As for turning her into a boogeywoman, I don't need to. She does that herself.

| 57. This is becoming a ridiculous attack on the OP. |
 |
I'm a Hillary supporter and don't like the implication that the OP has direct ties to that campaign, can't think for him/herself, is paid, or is working off some script. For cryin' out loud, it IS possible to independently come to a preference for any one candidate.....

The OP listed clearly republican positions - I snarkily inferred that they seemed, for the most part, to be Hillary's stance as well.
And you think I think he's working for Hillary, and was actually listing her positions?
Is there anyone here over 12 years old?

I've read for about a year or so. Every now and then I see a post that I feel strongly about and add my 2 cents. But I have to feel very strongly to subject myself to the inevitable bashing for my thoughts. Maybe I've had the wrong idea about this site. I thought it was a place for some democrats to make others not feel worthy of the title.
All I know is that I keep my head down, doing my part of the work I know has to be done to get this country on the right track, and I don't have time justify to myself to those who don't know me.
Again, my 2 cents.

 |
Certainly you wouldn't request that we fall into line to support Lieberman, because he is/was a Democrat. I look for more than party labels to tell whether to support a candidates or to criticize them. If there was a liberal Republican like Jeffords, or a progressive like Sanders, than they may get my vote, not because they are Democrats.
When a Democrats fails to represent progressive ideals, then they lose my vote. Whether that is by voting for war or supporting corporate welfare.
Sometimes the enemy is us. And it requires a little bashing of our own who have become more like Republicans than Democrats.

| 128. You made some excellent points and it is a shame that |
 |
some people chose to twist them.
Republicans must love watching the infighting among Democrats. Disagreement is acceptable and healthy, but this kind of pettiness is distracting and self-destructive.
With all the problems we've faced over the past seven years, I guess people get into a fight mode and don't know when and where to turn it off. Historically it is human nature, but conscious, aware people should be able to take that anger and transform it into to positive action.
I tend to believe that the provocateurs aren't really all that numerous, they are just more vocal.
