Obama and Oprah draw a full house in Iowa
DES MOINES -- Drawing a full house to a downtown convention center, Oprah Winfrey campaigned for Barack Obama in this crucial
early caucus state today for, she said, the same reason she believed the audience was there. "Because I care about this country," she said during a 50-
minute rally attended by as many as 18,000 people.

Winfrey also mocked pundits who have speculated about her possible influence on the Democratic nomination. "Despite all the talk and speculation
and the hype I understand the difference between a book club and a free refrigerator -- that was a nice refrigerator," she said, referring to prizes on
her show. "I understand the difference between that and this critical moment in our nation's history."

Oprah fans and Obama supporters filled the vast hall, wearing "Got Hope" T-shirts and carrying signs saying, "Change we can believe in."

The candidate's wife, Michelle Obama, introduced the speakers. Winfrey took the stage to loud cheers and spoke for about 20 minutes. "I came here
because I deeply believe in America," Winfrey said. "Let's dream America anew again by supporting Barack Obama."

1. Thanks for posting. Looks like some glowing press reviews of the events today.
It's great to be inspired.

It's also refreshing to have a candidate who gets some deservedly decent press coverage for once.

3. Remember when Oprah had Bush on her show in 2000 and he went up 10 points?

6. I read somewhere that she had no idea that would happen - and she was horrified at what happened.
That's when she swore off having presidential candidates on her show. Until she endorsed Obama.

4. I hope
this will inspire people to back Obama. I'm not an Obama supporter yet (still undecided) but I'm hoping he can put Hillary out. I can happily vote for Obama in the general if he gets the nomination.
