Why are there so many Illegal Aliens in this country now? Here's my take on it...

Republicans have Criminalize MOST Legal Immigration!

This country was built on the sweat an blood of Immigrants and immigrant labor, and it is STILL needed in this country.

Why that is still the case, I don't know, you tell me, but the fact is, this country doesn't function properly without low paid, hard working Immigrants, who come to America to make a better life for their families. That "Land of Opportunity" SHOULD still be available to everyone who wants it.

ALL of my Grand-parents were Immigrants (2 Irish Catholic, 1 French (American) Jew , 1 German non-citizen Jew) who came here legally, thanks to laws that were on the books at the time, some of which I don't think still apply, so this whole "Illegal Immigrant" BS really pisses me off.

So, you might ask, how have the Republicans Criminalize Immigration in America?

Well it didn't happen all at once, here's how they did it this time (they did it in the 1930's too):

By pushing for more and more Federal Tax Cuts (and then spending any savings those achieved on unnecessary Wars)!

By doing this they have (1) systematically under funded the Immigration and Naturalization Federal infrastructure of this country, which caused the time it takes to get the legal papers to enter this country legally unreasonably long and also cause those re-applying to renew their Legal status to become Illegal as they wait for paperwork to get processed.

These Tax Cuts also led to (2) the Corporate take over of American Farming, which in turn destroyed American Family Farms (by eliminating family members who go into farming) which left America without enough farm workers, which then necessitated the import of large numbers of foreign Farm workers from South and Central America, which became a problem due to point #1.

These extreme Tax Cuts have also encouraged Corporations to "out-source" GOOD American Jobs overseas, which has left us here only lower wage Jobs, which has in turn made it harder or completely impossible to send our kids to college, which then in turn causes the U.S. to have import more highly educated Immigrants to fill the jobs we can no longer fill with highly educated American, which causes more of an immigration backlog, etc, etc.

I could keep going on about all the negative effects of excessive Tax Cutting causes, but I hope you can see where I'm going with this cause and effect relationship, feel free to fill in any other areas I missed. There are plenty.

Other secondary effects are things like the Prison Industrial Complex and the dumbing down of America.

Then, to cover up the the fact that these excessive tax cuts (which they have been pushing for since the Regan-era) are actually destroying America, they turn around and use their Corporate Controlled so-called MSM to blame the "Illegal Immigrants" and "The Poor," for the problems Excessive Tax Cutting has caused.

So my question to all of you is, How do we fix this? And by "this" I mean the Grand Delusion that MORE Tax Cuts are a "Good for America!"

I'm sure I left a lot out in this equation, so fill in the holes as you see fit.

Discuss.

1. That's Neocon policy for you:
Bigger Government, less taxes. It's a paradox, but I guess they don't see it that way, the fuckers.

4. My grandparents came here because of the potato famine etc.
There were no laws then. Otherwise I am sure they would have been illegal.
BTW when I was young there was still a hatred for the Irish and the Czech (that's me). I can still remember the very overt anti-Catholicism. Those guys just need to have someone to hate, hate, hate.

7. Yup, my mother, who is first generation American, says she clearly remembers the NINA signs.
NINA = "HELP WANTED - NO IRISH NEED APPLY"

And this is in a Massachusetts Mill Town, Lawrence, Massachusetts.

I don't think the Irish were fully excepted memebers of society until about the time that John F. Kennedy elected President.

5. If Bush & republicans would simply fine the greedy corporations, the problem is over!!!
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 05:27 PM by GreenTea
With laws already on the books, to fine corporations and employers for hiring undocumented workers....BushCo simply looks the other way.....Whether it's global warming or hiring illegals, Bush/republicans will never get in the way of corporate profits.

If corporations were fined as the law requires (over & over for each worker violation if necessary) it would be extremely expensive for corporations to continue hiring these workers and the jobs would then go to American citizens who would demand better pay and conditions....and the corporations and the republicans will have none of that....

Corporate profits are better served by hiring undocumented workers, they pay them no benefits, slave wages comparatively what they would have to pay a citizen if the fining laws were enacted and the massive foreign workers breaks unions, just as the corporations want, as these workers will work for near nothing with no health benefits, nor demanding safety regulations.

Even the great Cesar Chavez recognized the republican and corporate threat when he was trying to form the farm workers union and republicans and corporations were allowing, encouraging and hiring undocumented workers to break Chavez attempt at forming a union.

If the corporations and employers were fined as the law reads for hiring & exploiting these workers, it would cost employers much with each infraction that it would no longer be profitable to hire the cheap undocumented worker, whom they can also cheat and not pay if they choose....

When fines would finally become so overwhelming for the employers, those illegal jobs would absolutely dry up for these workers, and their only option would be to seek employment elsewhere or apply for citizenship.

We indeed have an -illegal employer problem- that is being ignored by the corporate BushCo fascist as well as the republicans.

Until the -illegal employer problem- is addressed and the employers are fined as they are supposed to...NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE...CERTAINLY NOT SOME STUPID FENCE WILL CHANGE ANYTHING....THE ILLEGAL EMPLOYERS ARE OFFERING THEM JOBS & MONEY!!

as do persons from other countries. There are very few slots alloted to them.

They are poor people who want to be richer so they come here for jobs.
