DNC cancels L.A. debate with Couric
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1107/7078.html

The Democratic National Committee plans to announce Wednesday night that it has canceled the final presidential debate in its fall series because of a potential writers strike at CBS News, a sponsor of the debate.

"Due to the uncertainty created by the ongoing labor dispute between CBS and the Writers Guild of America, the DNC has canceled the Dec. 10 debate in Los Angeles. There are no plans to reschedule," a statement from DNC Communications Director Karen Finney says.

2. Couric as interrogator? oh my gawd.
"Hillary, do those shoes REALLY go with that dress?"
"Dennis, your wife is such a dear. What's wrong with her? After all, she's with you."
"Joe, how will you put your foot in your mouth again?"
"John, how much for this hair cut? Want to trade grooming secrets?"
"Barack, since you are muslim, would you allow yourself in your cabinet?"

4. WTH do they need WRITERS for in a debate?
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 07:15 PM by Greyskye
It's really simple. Collect important issues. For each issue, ask at least one question that each candidate gets to answer in turn. There are certainly enough questions out there in the public domain to fill out a few weeks worth of debates. I'd be happy to volunteer my services at no pay if this is really beyond their capabilities.

If they'd get beyond trying to craft individual questions designed to trap the candidate being questioned, maybe it wouldn't be rocket science?

On Edit: I see that the reason is that the candidates don't want to cross picket lines. OK, I'm down with that. So have the debate somewhere that isn't being picketed? I still stand by my proposed debate format though.

5. WHY?
Why is it being called the LAST presidential debates for the Dems, when there are 3 more scheduled before Iowa?! Five more total before Super Tuesday

6. I heard that on TV a little while ago, too.. that it was the
last scheduled debate.

I also wonder if this has as much to do with the writer's strike (??) or the last DISASTROUS performance by a supposedly impartial <right> moderator and the bad reviews overall.
