Bush Planning Permanent Presence in Iraq?
I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone talking about this, let alone finding any mention of it at all in main stream media.

Talking Points Memo had a good write up on it that I can't get to here at work. All I can find is this, damn web filters.

I can't say it surprises me in the least, but I find it deeply disturbing. Not about the oil huh? Yeah, and porn isn't about the sex.

Ok, back to work...

1. It Would Be Only Fitting
if Bush were condemned to live out his life in Iraq, WITHOUT the Secret Service, FBI, CIA, Blackwater, or any other protection....except what he could afford himself.

2. There have been a few threads on DU about it.
There is a thread about the letter that Hillary sent to Bush and there was also one regarding Edwards and his comments.

Why is anyone surprised? We knew that this was coming all along...

4. I missed 'em. Sorry. I did see the response from Edwards. I was
looking through the greatest page because I expected to see it near the top, and it didn't make it on there that I saw.

5. Permanent presence has been planned from day 1
And there have been threads on and off for years. Now it is just more formalized.
Last year I would go to my (then) representative's quarterly town halls and I always asked him about the permanent bases that were planned. He would never answer me. That was one of the many questions he would never answer.

3. the best way for the Dems to handle this is to get across the message
that long-term presence is an American defeat. There are plenty of junior's own sound-bites where this could be justified.

The only sign of an American victory is to have a goal of getting out - sometime.

6. At least 2 days ago I posted Bush and Maliki had reached
a non binding agreement. 50,000 or so troops to remain in Iraq
long term. To deter AlQaeda, to deter Iran and provide security
to Iraqia. American Business can operate in Iraq.

It was reported on the news. I posted it here. No one seem
to think it was significant.

In fact, someone offhandly rejected the idea.
