Clinton Glory
The Clinton's will make history if Hillary wins. Does anyone get intoxicated with the thought of this historical event?

I know there are those who actually hate Hillary Clinton but can anyone see the historical implications and not get excited?

I'm not a fan of dynasties. If Clinton is elected we will have had a president named Bush or Clinton for 24 years. And nobody can convince me that the junior Senator from New York would be in this at all if she hadn't been married to a former President.

6. Why don't we just call her Hillary Rodham?
And, yes, she would have been great without Bill. I'm not so sure you can say the same if he hadn't married her. Really, the "Clinton Dynasty" crap is old.

7. There are female heads of state worldwide.
It's not a novelty anymore.

So she uses the ladies room instead of the men's room. So they call her Madame President instead of Mr. President.

The sad thing is I'm a female and I'm completely immune to this. The female CEO of Hewlett Packard had employees spied upon.

11. Actually, the Clinton Brand
has been imprinted on the minds of the nation. Simple Pavlovian name recognition could explain the "dynasties" of American politics.

Don't underestimate the power of dumbing down. The Clinton Brand is an available tool to use in 2008.

12. Actually, you haven't been paying attention, at least here.
She's not 'imprinted' on many minds here. And there are many people who don't like dynasties. Be it ever so humble, DU isn't without knowledgeable people.

13. I don't mean DUers
I mean the six pack joes and the working mom's who have to make real sacrifices just to vote. I am not implying these people are dumb, it is that they may not have time to really dig into the issues and get to know the candidates. By using the Clinton name, we may just get enough people to vote, and to vote Democrat.

14. The Clinton name won't 'save' them. Voting for her will
make their travails worse imo. I think things are bad enough that people have to "PAY ATTENTION" finally, and vote for their best interests.

18. You are right CG, and to add to your post,
Republicans who are eager to face HRC are girding for the wrong fight. Many assume they will be facing someone of the mean level as Leona Helmsley, the notorious "Queen of Mean". This will not be the HRC the right wing nominee will face. Before this is over, HRC's candidacy will have more in common with Amelia Earhart's first tran atlantic flight or Sally Ride's frist trip into space than Leona's heartlessness.

Republicans who are eager to face HRC completrly fail to grasp the crucial role that symbolism plays in politics. HRC's bid to be the first ever woman president of the United States, and that folks is a big deal. It will as the campaign gets towards the end will over shadow every other issue and image of the campaigns.

The miscalculations about HRC's candidancy are partially a byproduct of a preoccupation with polls. Many republicans have made much of HRC's negative or unfavorable ratings in gallup surveys and other polling prior to September 07. ( HRC went over the 50% mark in favorable ratings and dropped below the 40% mark in late September or early October, CNN/Gallup) One of the things folks fail to understand is this: politicians can reverse negative perceptions. For example her numbers went up in the favorable column and down in the unfavorable column after her 2003 book. Same as now in 07 HRC's favorables are over 50 and un is below 40, but to know that is hard to find here on this democratic forum.

One thing you obama and edwards folks fail to realize in these polls that you overlook the fact that many of HRC's negatives are clustered mainly among republicans and republican leaning independents who are unlikely to vote for her in any circumstance. Even prior to the Gallup/CNN poll HRC's unfavorable among democrats and democratic leaning independents were modest and manageable.

So what do you think? I think HRC will be the democratic nominee and all this other is RIPE FOR SYMBOLIC EXPLOITATION.

19. Yes
I get very excited to think of the first woman nominee, and if she were to win, I would shit a gold brick at how she overcame all her enemies, on the right and the left.

22. politics is virtual and surreal
especially when honest dialog occurs.

Why is it so weird to get excited about a candidate who is a democrat, has balls, and has a great chance of winning? Being a Clinton only adds to the excitement.

21. sorry no.
no excitement for me. i was too young to understand politics when clinton was president. i only began to learn and understand after his term was over and his presidency lost most of its luster from scandal. and i was never fond of hillary the politician. and knowing their dlc corporatist tendencies, the prospect of another clinton presidency does nothing but fill me with dread akin to the dread i felt when dubya was elected the first time.
