If Edwards withdraws, who do his supporters go to?
I think this is an interesting scenario to play with all three "front-runners"... Maybe even include Bill Richardson in the mix. If Edwards were to withdraw, I think most of his supporters would go to Obama. That would put Obama a good clip ahead of Hillary.

If Obama were to withdraw, most of his supporters would probably support Hillary? That would put Hillary ahead of Edwards. Edwards loses without Obama in the race at the present time.

If Hillary were to withdraw, an unlikely scenario, most of her supporters would go to Obama, which would probably win him the nomination.

If Richardson were to withdraw, most of his supporters probably go Hillary, just from Richardson's close ties with the Bill Clinton Administration.

If any of the so-called "third-tier" candidates drop out, their supporters probably split with all the frontrunners? This is pure speculation and nothing but horserace talk. However, it seems to be what the NY Times and the Washington Post want to talk about today, also.

1. boy do i disagree with you
Obamas people go to Edwards in large numbers or, maybe, some to Biden.

Richardson's people go to HRC, but no other person's supporters would go there.

4. Obama is presently getting 40% of the black support...
My guess is that most of those folks would go to Hillary if Obama not in the race? That alone would probably advantage Hillary.

2. Nowhere.
I won't campaign or contribute to anyone.

I'll vote for Hillary, but my nose will be held.

7. I disagree that Clinton supporters would go to Obama
In fact, I don't think any candidate's supporters can be lumped into a group that would support any other one candidate.

10. From the passion exhibited on this board, I will be expecting
a rash of suicides when any of the top 3 or 4 bow out.

11. In the end, there can only be one...
Get ready for the suicides or get ready to accept that reality.

12. Recent Iowa polls show a split of the Edwards vote between Obama and Clinton
With Obama gaining in second choice voters from all other candidates combined. National polls so far have been showing 2:1 for Clinton from both Edwards and Obama voters in terms of second choices. Voters don't necessarily go where their candidates want them to go. All subject to change, anyways.

13. In the end people will have to decide whether.........
they want a Democrat in the W.H. even if its not the ideal candidate or if they want another eight yrs of Republican rule.

Funny thing about Democrats we kick the living shit out of each other and wonder why Republican waltz in. Its time to take a big chunk out of their play book and beat them with it. The Republicans will support the most vile, useless dead nag and shower them with support. Remember whats her name in Ohio? When Republicans don't get their way they shut-up and pull together, we Democrats splinter off or stay home. In 08 we need to prove to Republicans we can be ruthless. Together as a party, if not were all going to be whining on this board for another 8 yrs. Sometimes the best candidate doesn't always win. We know what we have to do, so lets just do it.
