Obama needs to bolt the Democratic party after this election if he looses
That would be my advice to him after all the mud slinging about a once gay singer and Dems complaining about the war but on the other hand voting for a candidate who voted for it.from what i am seeing on DU this party is no longer progressive there sounding like republicans

38. NO It's a site for progressives of the DEm party and other parties!
I am sick of reading this democratic party crap. DU is about wanting progressive change for our country. This is NOT a PARTY PLATFORM site. Read the rules, and stop the party uber alles bullshit.

The only part of the rules which are specifically pro dem party, is do not support a third party candidate against a dem. That is all. That does not make the Democratic party god. And if you use this nationalistic, fascist "PARTY PARTY PARTY" thing all the time, you end up missing out on life and all the good people around here.

STop the nonsense!!!!!!!!
Stop it. It is borderline fascism type of crazy.

Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 07:39 PM by Lirwin2
That's odd, it says right in the "About Democraticunderground" section: "We welcome Democrats of all stripes."

Like it or not, DU is a site for supporters of the DEMOCRATIC party. It's not a site for "independents" who sometimes might vote Democratic.

only stuff. There are a bunch of people who keep saying that this is a site for THE PARTY. IT IS NOT. It is for progressives of all parties.

I don't understand how anyone can be a centrist in this country at this time. but I don't keep telling centrists what party to join. If you are centrist, dlc, and think the party is more important than progressive viewpoints, than dlc would be the correct website.

progressives from the DEM party and other parties. That is the definition.
stop syaing it is about the DEM party. It is not.
Do whatever you want to do. But do not tell people what party they have to belong to in order to post. It is NOT YOUR DECISION to make.

progressive blog.

not right wing, not centrist, progressive.

Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 03:25 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
"Democrats AND progressives"

I don't mean to speak for Skinner, but I think the intent is that this is a site for Democrats and others who are progressive (Independent and even Republican) to discuss issues.

Again, I don't mean to speak for Skinner, but I think if you advocate for the Green Party against a Democratic candidate, in most cases you're going to find yourself tombstoned.

I believe the intention is for this site to support candidates of the Democratic Party.

That was what's known as an "example." Look it up sometime.

This general point here is that, and I'll allow Skinner to correct me since it's his board, this is a site dedicated to the work of the Democratic Party. If you a progressive independent, you're welcome to join in the discussion. But when you start advocating against the interests of the Democratic Party, there's a tombstone in your future.

not a site dedicated to the work of the democratic party. Those are your rules, not ours, and not Skinner's.
He is pretty clear about that.
He clearly states that that is NOT what this website is.

I posted the rules up above, so no need to keep on posting them. Just read them please.

So, he could hardly vote for it, since they still only let Senators vote on bills.

Kucinich WAS in the House of Representatives and DID vote against it. Yet there is almost no support for him. Everyone would rather take a "I wouldn't have" when it costs NOTHING to say than to look at a candidate that ACTUALLY put his job and reputation on the line to say "No".

64. I totally diagree
Despite some short sighted and closed-minded posters here, who think THEIR agenda is the only agenda in the world, Obama, should he not be President, will be a fine Democrat. I disagree with his choice of singers, I disagree with some other positions he takes, but he's a fine man, a fine Democrat, and we don't all have to agree about him on every issue.

Obama fits in the Democratic party I grew up with, the party of McCarthy and Humphrey. The stakes are just a lot higher now, and involve the lives of milions in the Middle East, and the quality of life for gay people in America. Obama is not perfect on the latter, but where is Hillary on the former issue? I wish I knew!

76. Obama is much smarter and more mature than that
Whether or not he wins the nomination, he has a bright future in the party.

82. Yeah, great idea!
Let him bolt and divide the party and votes and let the Rethugs really honestly...win for a change. Sometimes knee jerk ideas sound better than they are. Maybe that ides needs some fine tuning!

86. Poppycock... he is young, bright, and will have many
opportunities in the future. While the votes have yet to be cast (and yes he does still have a chance), it seems that the zeitgeist is saying 'not your time'.

Also, I can't see Hillary (or any other Dem) picking him as VP because of the Charisma thing. You don't want to be a shadow to your VP candidate.
