Question for New Biden supporters or leaning towards Biden

This question was asked a while back, but the climate here as changed a lot in just a few weeks. For those of you who have moved to Biden or are now giving him a serious look, please explain why.

He is still not my favorite because there are a couple candidates that I prefer, but let's just say that he is now seriously in my top 3 or 4.

6. I've always found him likeable...

But his Iraq plan passing the Senate really got my attention. I know I've said this before, but I'm used to candidates just talking about their plans. I've never really seen one this important put into action right in the middle of a campaign - in contrast to all the ineffectiveness going on in Congress these days. So I started looking into him more, and though I don't agree with everything he's done, he sure has done a hell of a lot. His achievements and his record of making things happen is unprecedented out of this field - and possibly in all of modern politics. He shows leadership and effectiveness, and we're going to need a hellova lot of both next term. As a person, he's undoubetdly sincere. He and Kucinich are the only ones I feel I can trust 100%.

7. I was even more impressed that he put his whole campaign on the line by bringing that resolution to

a vote. He could have been really embarrased. The vote could have gone the other way.
And Maliki and many other leaders have spoken out against it.

I haven't seen one other candidate take a risk like that.

14. I have to say that I was impressed by how much

he's gotten done in the senate while campaigning for president. After 34 years in the senate he knows how to get things done, but even so, I can't see how he's been able to juggle so much at one time! It seems that would be a desirable trait in a president.

Democrats needing to sharpen their Teeth for a while now. like today, Stark caving, the Dem's that urged him too. they need to use their teeth and fight back. The rethugs have gotten away with it for too long now. just so happens from where i sit. it would seem, the Dem's have taken it so long we barely peep when the hatchet comes at us. but the republicans get to squeal like the pigs they are. when we Dem's simply pick up that hatchet. 17. Here are few reasons that he's someone I'm considering:

1. He's not glib. He says what he thinks and that's that. (He's gotten in trouble for that sometimes, but I like it nonetheless.)
2. He'd fight like hell in the general.
3. I trust his judgment in a crisis.
4. He's seems to stand for the issues that I believe in.
5. With his experience, he'd make an easy adjustment from the senate to the oval office.

don't want to run against. This is not a minor issue either. He can capture a lot of independents and dissatisfied republicans. A landslide victory in 08 could mean we would have a president who could actually bring about the kinds of change our country needs.

After 7 years of stupid I like the idea of a candidate that doesn't break everything down into 10 second sound bites.

Our primary isn't until February so I still have time to decide. So far I'm definitely leaning toward Biden.

21. Here's why I chose Joe:

I had been leaning Obama, and then Biden caught my attention. The more I learned about him, the more he KEPT my attention.
I have to admit, to me Obama is refreshing. It sounds a little corny but I had this overwhelming feeling it would be like a new day for America with Obama leading the way, but his "greeness" made me nervous. He is a refreshing change, and an inspirational leader...but some of his stumbles on the campaign trail really highlight his newness.
The next president of the US is going to have a foreign policy nightmare waiting for him or her, and Obama doesn't have the foreign policy experience. We need someone who has a proven track record of solid diplomatic performance to help restore America's standing in the world. I think Obama would learn to do well with foreign policy...I don't believe we can afford the time it would take to for him to ramp up. I want someone who can hit the ground running, and Biden can do that.
As for domestic issues, Biden has proven his effectiveness there too. Biden is a straight shooter and tells things like it is.I'm sick of politicians blowing smoke up my posterior. I'm sick of candidates pointing the finger and not offering solutions. I'm sick of candidates who only think in 10 second sound bytes. And I'm sick of pie-in-the-sky campaign promises that never come to fruition. Biden offers solutions that are practical, and realistic. They may not be the perfect "utopian" answers..but they are solutions that actually have a chance of being accepted on both sides of the aisle, and will make a difference. I don't know about everyone else...but I'd like to see some action for a change...and Biden is a "doer" not a "debater". We spend a lot of time arguing about things that don't have a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening, and while everyone is debating and arguing over the perfect plan....nothing changes. We have got to change the ALL OR NOTHING culture we have become.
Joe will fight. There will be no swiftboating or underhanded swipes from the other side of the aisle that will go unaddressed. He's got a spine and knows how to use it. Let the right try to swiftboat Biden. Let them try to bully or intimidate him. I believe he has guts and has proven he will take a stand.
I like most of the other candidates, but when I compare them side by side, and consider the whole picture...not just one or two issues...Biden is the only choice I can make, and he is the only choice for this nation right now.

I like Obama alot. And he is definitely someone who should become President. He just needs a little bit more experience.
Being VP will give him that.

A good candidate can be damaged by too much political expertise. As someone said a while back, Biden does appear to be a guy who can be "handled". He is his own person and makes his own decisions.

We have some quality people running, but in the past several months of listening to them all, he has stood out. He has clear vision and expertise on foreign policy, but he has also impressed me on the domestic side as well. I know some don't like his approach to Iraq, but nobody wants to both change the situation and also deal with Iraq at the same time. His plan does. It's not perfect, but it's way to late for a "great" solution unless Iraqi's suddenly love each.


I really didn't pay attention to him too much before this year, but hearing him speak compared to the others to me... it's just not the same level. I appreciate his candor in speaking as well. Yes it's a little rough at times, but the retreaded lines that we hear all of the time just sound too robotic.



Dodd would be close on my preferences for similar reasons.

I wouldn't even have considered Biden before and frankly I thought he was a little too much like a politician and didn't trust him. But I'm seeing more and more stuff about him posted here and it gets me thinking. I'm taking a closer look at the man, his career, and his campaign, and I like what I see.

I like his plans for Iraq, health care, and other stuff. His plans on his website seem so comprehensive, sensible, and realistic. When he takes office, President Biden will actually get those things done. I like straight talk and wisdom. Um, this may sound dumb but I think he's a handsome man and that always helps a candidate. I have strong favorable opinions of Edwards and Obama for their charisma, but Biden seems to have that and experience. I think either of them would be a good running mate for him. Richardson would be good too.

For caucuses in particular, it's important for a candidate to have passionate supporters but the wonderful thing I've noticed about Biden's supporters is that you guys tend to stay positive and don't seem to trash anyone else. Keep it up. You can tell a lot about a candidate by the character of his or her supporters.

Bush has made a terrible mess that will take many years to clean up. While any of our Dems would be good presidents, Biden seems like a good total package to defeat Giuliani or whoever they end up running and actually bring about real progressive change.

We do have an extraordinary line up, but this time it is so important to make the right choice. You are right about the charisma of Edwards and Obama, but I need more than that in a candidate at a time when the state of the country and the world is so precarious.

Thank you for your kind words about Biden supporters. It is really appreciated and I too tend to judge a candidate by the "character of his or her supporters".

Oh, and I think he's handsome as well! Just the icing on the cake.

49. Biden caught my attention a couple of years ago

Biden was a senator from some back east state. I couldn't tell you which one, but I had heard of him. Some sage always had thread on DU about "If it's Sunday, it must be Biden" and "What's the most dangerous place in DC--between Joe Biden and a TV camera." I started paying attention to this guy that could get so much camera time. And you know what, I liked what I saw.

I decided that I liked Joe spending so much time on camera. He made me feel good about being a democrat. He didn't kiss the repub butt. He grilled Rummy. They couldn't make him apologize when he told some general not to listen to Rummy.

I've been a Biden supporter for some time now. Also I want to discontinue the Bush-Clinton dynasty. I like both Bill and Hilary, but I want some new blood in the presidency.

and there are moments when I wish we could go back to them, but reality sets in rather quickly. We cannot recreate that decade. Too much has happened since then and I believe, like you, we need someone new in the White House. Bill Clinton was the right man for the time and I believe Joe Biden is the right man now.
