18. I don't know what the meme is, but I'd be interested to know...
what state you live in. There are many places in this country where people really resent Hillary Clinton. I think it's mostly unfairly, but it's real and very visceral. I had one of my supervisors make a Hillary joke in our lunchroom the other day. It wasn't an Edwards joke, or a Joe Biden joke. It was another stupid joke about Hillary Clinton. Right now there are a lot of Independents and moderate Republicans looking for a reasonable way out of Iraq. These voters are seriously considering voting Democrat. Make Hillary the nominee and you'll be not only throwing all of those votes away, but you'll be giving them to her Republican opponent. If you want to see Republicans inspired to campaign, raise money, and vote, then make Hillary the Democratic nominee. Personally, I don't feel like throwing the dice on this election. Hillary would be a big gamble. There's too much at stake here.

20. I live in Virginia...
Where she is polling ahead of Republicans...and where I meet dozens of people supporting her...

The electability argument is one without foundation...it has become CW despite considerable evidence t hat it is unfounded...personal anecdotes aside...

6. I'm very suspicious of the Wisconsin poll
Being there and doing lots of grassroots work, I can count on one hand the people who support Clinton. Clinton fans rejoice! Where ever you are...

10. So you think they made it up?
Or poll after poll just happens to hit the same small group of people every time...?

What's the MoE on your gut intuition?

16. I base my opinion on being in events where people come up to me and...

...say they would not vote for Clinton. People who like Bill but can't stand her... women mostly. Do they exist? Yes. In large numbers. When I say they come up to me, it's the Obama table I do every Saturday where over 10,000 people walk by.

If you look at real numbers in terms of contributions, consider Obama getting over $300,000 over Clinton's $69,000 in Wisconsin. I know, it's not a poll taken with people on land lines...

Dean Soars into Huge Lead in New Hampshire

Now Leads Kerry 40-17 Among Likely Voters; Clark and Edwards in Distant 3rd --New Zogby Poll

Former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean has opened a large lead over his closest challenger in New Hampshire according to the newest poll by Zogby International.

Dean earned 40%, compared to Massachusetts Senator John Kerry’s 17%. None of the other candidates have exceeded single digits in the polling. Retired General Wesley Clark and North Carolina Senator John Edwards are tied for third with 6% each.

<...> Pollster John Zogby: "This is stunning. Dean leads 43-20 among Democrats and 35 to 11 among Independents. He hits 40 among all age groups, union and non-union voters. His lead is 57-17 among self-described progressives, 50-20 among liberals, and 34-14 among moderates. Married voters give him a 38-13 edge and singles a 45-21 point lead. He holds huge leads among all education groups, among investors and non-investors, men and women. This qualifies as juggernaut status. Can he be stopped?"

this is from the posting by a DUer earlier.

15. I keep repeating this, but it's true. You are comparing apples and oranges.

The order of the top three is unlikely to change from now until the first caucus and primaries. Completely different dynamic than 04'. All three are well known, and the election season started much, much earlier. Notice how the numbers haven't changed much for many months? The odds of Hillary being the nominee are probably greater than 95%. She'd have to make a major blunder, and she's the least likely candidate to make a major blunder.

17. The poll doesn't claim
that clinton will win the nomination. It's measuring support for her TODAY.

And because a frontrunner fell in '04 doesn't mean it's necessarily going to happen in '08, so I don't know why you think it's so clever to refer to Dean.

21. Because the Lieberman strain of this meme no longer made sense.
Before it was always Lieberman was leading in '03 and her lead will disappear just like his did over the summer.

Summer is over, time to rebrand the meme.

11. I congratulate Senator Clinton and her team for the strong leads in
several key states.

But I'm voting for one of her challengers in the primary.
