Zogby: 51% of Americans Want Congress to Probe Bush/Cheney Regarding 9/11;>30% Immediate Impeachment

Zogby Poll: 51% of Americans Want Congress to Probe Bush/Cheney Regarding 9/11 Attacks; Over 30% Seek Immediate Impeachment

67% also fault 9/11 Commission for not investigating anomalous collapse of World Trade Center 7

Kansas City, MO (Zogby International) September 6, 2007 - As America nears the sixth anniversary of the world-churning events of September 11, 2001, a new Zogby International poll finds a majority of Americans still await a Congressional investigation of President Bush' and Vice President Cheney's actions before, during and after the 9/11 attacks. Over 30% also believe Bush and/or Cheney should be immediately impeached by the House of Representatives.

The 911truth.org–sponsored poll also found that over two-thirds of Americans say the 9/11 Commission should have investigated the still unexplained collapse of the 47-story World Trade Center Building 7 at 5:20 p.m. on September 11, 2001.

WTC 7 housed the mayor's emergency bunker and offices of the SEC, IRS, CIA and Secret Service and was not hit by any planes but still completely collapsed into its own footprint nearly eight hours after the Twin Tower attacks. FEMA did not explain this collapse, the 911 Commission ignored it, and the promised official study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is now 2 years overdue.

Janice Matthews, executive director of poll sponsor 911truth.org, observes: "The supermajority response to the WTC Building 7 question signals an increasing public concern about this remarkable event -- up from 38% last year. We can perhaps credit this rising awareness to the millions who have recently witnessed videos or Youtube clips of this skyscraper's descent and the outspoken demands for a new WTC inquiry from over 150 architects and engineering professionals, including NIST's own former Fire Science Division Chief, Dr. James Quintiere. Another contributory factor is the increased questioning among Hispanics, Blacks and Asians whose responses appear significantly more critical of the 9/11 Commission than Whites, sometimes twice as critical."

6. bullshit..
explain why you feel this is a push poll.

402. There are three main schools of thought regarding the 9/11 attacks. The first theory is the official story, and maintains that 19 Arab fundamentalists executed a surprise attack which caught US intelligence and military forces off guard. The second theory known as Let It Happen argues that certain elements in the US government knew the attacks were coming but consciously let them proceed for various political, military and economic motives; and the third theory Made It Happen contends that certain US government elements actively planned or assisted some aspects of the attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events and their aftermath, which theory are you more likely to agree with?

7. Not that question
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 04:47 PM by rinsd
"403. In October 2006, a New York Times/CBS poll found that only 16% of Americans believe they have been told the whole truth about this administration's foreknowledge of
the September 11 attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events, do you agree or disagree that the Congress should investigate the executive branch's conduct prior
to, during and following the September 11 attacks?"

Classic push polling by using peer pressure.

"404. World Trade Center Building 7 was the 47-story skyscraper a block away from the Twin Towers that housed the mayor's emergency management center and offices of the SEC, Secret
Service and CIA. It was not hit by any airplanes during the September 11th attacks, but still collapsed nearly eight hours later that day. FEMA did not explain this collapse, the 911
Commission ignored it, and the promised official study is now 2 years overdue. Do you think that the 911 Commission was right to concentrate their investigation on the collapse of buildings
which were directly hit by airplanes or should they have also investigated the collapse of Building 7?"

Could this question be more leading and biased?

"405. Some people say that so many unanswered questions about 9/11 remain that the nation needs a new independent investigation of the attacks, including whether any US government
officials consciously allowed or helped facilitate their success. Other people say the 9/11 attacks were thoroughly investigated and that any speculation about US government involvement is
absurd. Who are you more likely to agree with?"

Here we have the classic bullshit question of some people say.

The 9/11 truth movement is fucking joke that has been shown to be dishonest time and time again.

11. Hmm. Why didn't you report the stats for that question, frylock?
Official Story - 63.0%
Let It Happen - 26.4%
Made It Happen - 4.6%
Not Sure - 5.4%

Ouch. That's going to leave a mark.

17. nitpick: "I do not think it means what you think it means"
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 08:22 PM by OnTheOtherHand
A push poll is a form of negative campaigning disguised as a political poll that is designed to change opinions, not measure them. Legitimate polls accurately describe the candidates and issues in order to understand voter reactions. Push polls frequently present distorted information in order to influence voters. Push polls go beyond the ethical boundaries of political polling and bombard voters with problematic statements about candidates or issues in an effort to manufacture negative voter attitudes.

http://www.aapor.org/pdfs/2004/pushpolls.pdf

So, if 911truth commissioned someone to call lots and lots of people and feed 'em misinformation under the guise of polling, that would be a push poll.

So, this isn't a "push poll." "BS poll" could fit. As with others of these little Zogby omnibus segments, the problem is partly in the questions (love those tendentious intros!) and partly in what the sponsors make of the answers. For instance, the press release -- credited to Zogby International itself -- says: "...a majority of Americans still await a Congressional investigation of President Bush' (sic?) and Vice President Cheney's actions before, during and after the 9/11 attacks." Well, the actual question wording refers to "the executive branch's conduct." Umm, are "Bush and Cheney" and "the executive branch" coterminous? Is that synecdoche, or spew?

Similarly, the question wording "Congress should start impeachment proceedings" is magically transmogrified into "Bush and/or Cheney should be immediately impeached."

Now, the AAPOR code of ethics states:
If we become aware of the appearance in public of serious inaccuracies or distortions regarding our research, we shall publicly disclose what is required to correct these inaccuracies or distortions, including, as appropriate, a statement to the public media, legislative body, regulatory agency, or other appropriate group, to which the inaccuracies or distortions were presented.

http://www.aapor.org/pdfs/AAPOR_Code_2005.pdf

Hmm. Do these rate as "serious... distortions"? Is 911truth capable of "serious" distortions?

Despite all that, the survey isn't entirely useless. It supports the inference that MIHOP remains fringe, and the result to #405 undermines what they want to do with #403 (so they leave it out of the press release). A few more questions would help to clarify what people are really thinking about LIHOP (to the extent that they are) and impeachment. I'd rather see bad questions than none at all. But that press release... golly.

EDIT for clarity on push polls

21. "Lies, damned lies and statistics"
Another Zogby with poorly written questions. But hey, he who pays for the survey gets to write em, and often times use them as backup for whatever they want to claim. It isn't the first time a Z poll has been poorly written and then misrepresented and used as a tool around here.

Zogby's "methods" may be legit, but the results are poor because the questions are skewed. Similar to:

"Many people think that 68% of deer in this country are overweight because of candle wax in their diet. Do you agree or disagree that deer are overweight in this country?"

or

"68% of the people think deer are overweight due to candle wax. Do you agree or disagree that candlewax is a problem in deer diets?"

or

"only 16% of Americans believe they have been told the whole truth about this administration's foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks.... do you agree or disagree that the Congress should investigate the executive branch's conduct prior to, during and following the September 11 attacks?"

You can say it doesn't meet definition of "push-poll", but to me it doesn't meet my definition of unbiased.

23. Here's an example:
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 12:05 AM by troubleinwinter
Zogby poll question:

In some states, members of the public have the right to view the counting of votes and verify how that process is working. In other states, citizens are in effect barred from viewing vote counting even if they would like to view the process.

A: Citizens have the right to view and obtain information about how election officials count votes. (91.7%)

B: Citizens do not have the right to view and obtain information about how elections officials count votes. (5.9%)

http://www.bradblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Zogby%20X-tabbed%20data%208-23-06%20release.pdf

The poll question indicates that a great majority of Americans assume they have the right to view information about how voting is counted.

Though the question is clear, the 'results' are reported as something else entirely:

At a stunning rate of 92%, Americans insist on the right to watch their votes being counted.

Michael Collins, ('autorank') http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0608/S00220.htm
I see nothing of the sort about Americans "insisting" on anything. They apparently assumed they were able to obtain information about how votes are counted. That's what the question posed.

As The BRAD BLOG reported two days ago, a new Zogby poll has revealed that a stunning 92% of Americans want their vote counted transparently and not by secret vote counting machines. http://www.bradblog.com/?p=3307
The poll "revealed" no such thing.

The sponsor (who paid for the poll) immediately represented the poll as:
"The 92% support for the public's right to view vote counting and obtain information about it is a very strong political value of transparency and against secret vote counting outside the observation of the public," said Paul Lehto, a lawyer and sponsor of the survey." "To put this figure in context, support for election transparency exceeds the support for tax cuts, exceeds the approval of Pres. Bush immediately after 9-11, and virtually all other political values being measured." http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1163

The survey question asks nothing about support for anything. Maybe the people do, but the question was not asked.

I believe there are too many worms from both sides inside that can and Bush and co. wont go down by themselves because all the worms are a part of the direction our country is going. Towards the end of Bush's presidency maybe they could throw us a bone like
Cheney, that is if there is no use of martial law? I don't think he would care what people think as long as hes filthy rich!

16. I'm not very familiar with polling, could someone explain the high military figure to me?
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 08:10 PM by CGowen

As I understand it they phoned 1000 people and asked them many questions

Survey Methodology

This is a telephone survey of adults nationwide conducted by Zogby International. The target sample is 1,000 interviews with approximately 71 questions asked. Samples are randomly drawn from telephone cd's of national listed sample. Zogby International surveys employ sampling strategies in which selection probabilities are proportional to population size within area codes and exchanges. As many as six calls are made to reach a sampled phone number. Cooperation rates are calculated using one of AAPOR's approved methodologies and are comparable to other professional public-opinion surveys conducted using similar sampling strategies. Weighting by region, party, age, race, religion, and gender is used to adjust for non-response. The margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

How can they come up with 770 people in armed forces and 236 not in the armed forces?

I assume this is for having served and serving.

Even if all males served (493), that leaves 277 females who had to serve to get to 770. (493 males and 513 females)

I don't think this is realistic

US still awaits 9/11 answers
Fri, 07 Sep 2007 01:32:47
A new poll finds a majority of Americans still await an inquiry into the president's and vice president's actions before, during and after the 9/11 attacks.

Over 30% also believe Presdient Bush and/or Vice President Cheney should be immediately impeached by the House of Representatives. 67% also fault the 9/11 Commission for not investigating the technical aspects of the collapse of the World Trade Center.

The poll was conducted by Zogby International via telephone of adults across the US from August 23 to August 27, 2007.

Zogby International has been tracking public opinion since 1984 in North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Euro
