Kucinich Moving Up in Democratic Presidential 'Horse Race'
DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- If the quest for the Democratic nomination for President is a long-distance horse race, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, the self-described longshot Seabiscuit of the field, is steadily moving up on the front-runners.

In fact, as of this morning, Kucinich was winning the online ABC News poll following yesterday's Democratic Presidential Forum in Des Moines, IA. In answer to ABC's question "Who do you think won the Democratic debate," Kucinich received more than 10,000 on-line votes. U.S. Senator Barack Obama was second with more than 8,000; U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton was third with more than 5,000; U.S. Senator Joe Biden was fourth with about 3,200; and former Senator John Edwards was next with about 3,000. About 35,000 votes had been cast by 11 a.m. today.

Admittedly, the poll was unscientific, but it reflects a growing trend in which the Congressman has been highly rated -- second or third in most cases -- during the last several Democratic Presidential forums.

Following the HRC/LOGO presidential forum last week, Kucinich came in second (25%) behind Obama (46%) in an on-line poll among forum viewers. Clinton came in third with 14%, and Edwards scored only 5%.

Also last week, the candidates appeared at an AFL-CIO Democratic Presidential forum in Chicago that was televised on MSNBC. Following the debate, the network asked the on-line question: "Which Democrat will best represent labor?" Obama came in first with 24%. Kucinich and Edwards were tied at 22%. Clinton came in fourth at 17%.

At a PBS-televised forum at Howard University, some political analysts, notably Roger Simon of "Politico," rated Kucinich third behind Clinton and Obama.

And, in an ongoing "blind taste test" Internet poll in which respondents identify and rank the issues that are important to them, without knowing in advance where the candidates stand on those issues, Kucinich has been the runaway winner "on the issues" for the last several weeks.

The ABC results were especially encouraging to the Kucinich campaign because the Congressman was not even asked a question until 35 minutes into the forum and received the least time on camera of any of the leading candidates.

At one point, in answer to a question about the role of prayer in the candidates' lives, Kucinich quipped to moderator George Stephanopoulos, "George, I have been standing up here for 45 minutes praying that you would ask me a question."

1. As people learn more about him,
The better he does...

So much for not being "electable!"

7. As an Iowan and seeing the candidates up close
I am still most impressed by DK. He was in my town in 2004. He had some musicians with him who sang folk songs for peace and one did a Tibetan chant.

9. Before a San Diego appearance
Kucinich had musicians present at our rally too. The program was a presentation by Gold Star families father, Fernando Suarez del Solar to talked of his son's loss. And, Before Kucinich's talk the music was Sting's "Fragile,' and Kucinich's favorite song, " Imagine." The music was beautiful.

I wonder if the debates have had any noticiable effect on his scientific poll numbers?

5. those who REALLY wants to help the Kucinich campaign...NOW IS THE TIME TO DONATE!!

you can do it RIGHT NOW on DU/Act Blue.

If those who care about the issues Mr. Kucinich raises donate NOW – HE WILL BE

A TOP-TIER CANDIATE!!

I'm not addressing those who do not support Congressman Dennis Kucinich

and do not agree with him on the issues. I'm addressing those who DO

support Congressman Kucinich and/or do agree with him on the issues:

Donating to the Kucinich 2008 campaign through DU/ACT Blue is very fast.

It's very easy. Do it now!

---------

Some are supporting Congressman Kucinich because they strongly believe he can win. Others are supporting him because they support his agenda (or at least most of it) and want those issues brought to the center of public debate.

Mr. Kucinich does not have the funding of the top-tier candidates. Corporate lobbyist seeking government favoritism for their special interest won’t be writing their $2300 checks paying for access like they do for other candidates. But small donations DO add up very, very fast. That's how the Dean campaign became a significant force in 2004.

So whether or not you are convinced that Congressman Kucinich could possibly win...if you want the issues only Dennis Kucinich raises brought to the public square, if you believe his message of Strength through Peace is important, that the whole question of corporate control of government is important, that single-payer universal health care is important, if you believe American needs fundamental changes; his campaign needs a lot more money then it has in its coffers now.

IF anywhere near half the people who agree with Congressman Dennis Kucinich on the issues sent him a donation -- he would be a major top-tier contender very, very fast:

Donating through DU/ACT Blue is very fast. It's very easy. Do it now! I did...

link:

http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/12518

He won't be getting a whole lot from the corporate lobbyist buying access for their special interest and paying for favoritism... so ...

PLEASE DONATE NOW ! you can do it RIGHT NOW on DU/Act Blue.

It's fast. It's very easy. Do it now! I did…..

8. Be true to YOURSELF, your values and vision for the future.
If you do that then supporting Kucinich is just one more way to serve your own truth.
How can you do otherwise?

in any primary. He'll be stuck as an also-ran.

Maybe the DK supporters are out there doing the grassroots stuff and are in touch with more people who would vote for Dennis...on or off the "internets"!

21. I suspect that is true
DK supporters are out there doing grassroots stuff and are in daily contact with people who are interested in DK and want to vote for him. As a result, they are confused when the voting occurs and he attracts a pitiful amount of support. By surrounding themselves with only those that support Dennis, they create a distorted sample of reality. It's all a variation of the "I can't believe McGovern didn't win--all my friends voted for him" story.

23. Grassroots...as in connecting with many different people
who are not all for Kucinich...but its amazing that when they are told about DK, how they express interest in what he stands for.

Its not just hanging with DK supporters...the whole idea of grassroots is reaching out to everyone.

I can honestly say most DK supporters are anything but confused.

So, you hang on DU and then tell me about a distorted sense of reality. :eyes:

24. "Showing interest in what he stands for"...
is as far away from voting for him as you can get.

People vote for candidates whom they trust in the unknown future. Every presidential candidate is mostly evaluated, not by their going-in policies, platform or recommendations, but by how much the candidate can be trusted to make good decisions in the unknowable course of future events.

For me, the test of Kucinich is his Dept. of Peace: so stupid an idea that few will ever trust him with an important office.

Kucinich hasn't a chance of 5% of the Democratic vote, IMO, in any primary.

Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 04:44 AM by Douglas Carpenter
and if anywhere near half of those put in a modest effort, you will not need to read about it on DU...

It will be on the front page of your newspaper and on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and even FOX.

Thanks though for encouraging folks! .:toast:
