Hillary booed at AFL -CIO forum...
Hillary Clinton was then brought in on the Pakistan discussion. "I think it is a very big mistake to telegraph that," she said — addressing the complicated Catch 22 that a president could hold this position, but may not want to say it publicly. "You can think big, but remember you shouldn't always say everything you think if you're running for president, because it has consequences across the world." That last line about not always saying everything you think earned her a strong round of boos — this was not her debate.

1. She's right, though.
All good leaders know that you don't disclose your plans to potential enemies. All warfare is based on deception.

8. You do if you need drastic change
And as a Dem Party strategy, you sure as HELL don't let Bush be FIRST on getting tough with Pakistan and al qaeda. He knows where the American people are at on al qaeda, Hillary doesn't. That's what is happening here, whether the namby-pamby centrists get it or not.

If a throw a site up, it will be entirely fact-based - votes, in-context quotes, etc.

7. At this point, it does not matter
The AFL-CIO is not what it used to be; labor is not what it used to be. I almost think that being booed there can help her with independents and moderates from both parties.

13. Wow! How very snarky! If labor isn't supportive of a candidate, I would hope no Democrat should be!
And it is outrageous that you would tar "moderate " Democrats with the label of not supporting labor.Disgusting position.

17. Truth hurts, doesn't it?
Sorry. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the contributions that Labor and Union made to the workforce. Things that we tend to take for granted: paid vacation and holidays, fourty hours work week, benefits (that are disappearing), child labor law.

But these are not the 30s, not even the 50s.

The number of employees who belong to Union has been decreasing as we shifted from a manufacturing-based economy to a service one. (Both my father and my father-in-law were union members). As many went through long periods of unemployment and under employment, as we were forced to concentrate on providing for our families on our own since no one else was going to we realized that belonging to the Union had very little to do with our daily life.

Some time ago I asked on DU about working conditions in non-unionized plants of Japanese car manufacturing in the south and the replies were that employees were quite happy. Meaning, you do not need a union to have good paying secure - more or less - job.

And Union did not have much of a voice in 2004. You are not going to conclude that this is why Kerry lost, now, would you. This would be "snarky" of you.

Read more about this here

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3435058

The reality is that Union and Labor are not the most important issues for the majority of working American, including long-time Democrats.

And if this hurts, well this is part of growing up.

18. You could be right and it would still be disgusting! And No I would not
conclude that this is why Kerry lost" as I do not think he did.But you are right about the decreasing numbers of Union members and the decreased value of the Union "voice".I consider it the "duty" of the Democratic Party to build up support for the Unions and to assist in strengthening that voice.

14. So that just leaves their judgment...
If candidates won't tell you what they will do, then you just have to trust their judgment based on evidence of past decisions they've taken. I'm surprised Clinton would want to force voters to that analysis.

16. I didn't think what she said was bad enough to be
booed. She has a point though, remarks by American presidential candidates actually can cause consequences across the world.
