i understand that harriet miers did not appear before congress today, regardless of the subpoena she has been given.
i am calling to urge you to use the process of INHERENT CONTEMPT -- the procedure of holding a person in contempt within the house.

Former Bush counsel faces possible contempt charges

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A divided congressional panel moved toward bringing contempt charges against former White House counsel Harriet Miers on Thursday after she refused to appear at a hearing on the firing of federal prosecutors.

On a party-line vote of 7-5, a Democratic-led House of Representatives Judiciary subcommittee rejected Miers' contention that President George W. Bush's claim of executive privilege allowed her not to attend its hearing or testify on what she knows about the dismissals.

"We have given all these claims careful consideration, and I hereby rule that those claims are not legally valid, and that Ms. Miers is required pursuant to the subpoena to be here now and to produce documents and answer questions," said subcommittee Chairwoman Linda Sanchez, a California Democrat.

After her panel approved the ruling, Sanchez said, "This subcommittee and the full committee will take under advisement what next steps are warranted."........

4. Something happened inm the course of the discussions that John Conyers

...motion which he introduction to issue a Contempt of Congress citation to Harriet Meyers was just dropped. It never got a vote as far I I saw. I watched most of the hearing except for fives or eight minutes when Watts began to recite his list of the violations which Bush was responsible for, and in the background I heard an objection from Cannon, but I did not get back to the hearings until the wrap up. So I did not hear if Conyers motion was voted down or withdrawn. Can anyone update me on that?

6. Okay, so she can still honor the original subpoena within the next five days

...which would take this to next Tuesday I presume, at which time if the committee gets no reply or if they get a reply in writing explaining the President's reason(s) for so ordering Meyers to ignore the subpoena, then they can issue the citation. I see, so we are still not at the point of a constitutional crisis....too bad! The White House hopes it will dry up and go away, or be superseded by more serious events, such as another terror attack or the bombings of Iran or Harriett Meyers disappearing. Bastards!
