Mom and I saw Dad today
Edited on Mon May-28-07 04:31 PM by Omaha Steve

My Dad died a few weeks before Memorial Day in 94. For the previous nine years I have had to work on Memorial Day and didn't get to visit on this day of remembrance. Several of those years I lowered to half staff the US flags in Omaha parks, and then raised them back up. Dad was just a PFC. He didn't want in the Army. He was drafted BEFORE the events that will live in infamy. He fought in the Pacific theater. He came home on points and married mom just before the first A bomb was dropped. My Dad never talked much about the war except when watching war movies or TV shows like COMBAT!. Mom still watches war movies every chance she gets. She still tries to understand what he went through. Dad was not considered a war hero. He was a simple anti tank gunner in the 25th Division. He hated war. That club seems to grow larger every year. Enjoy your day Daddy.

6. PFCs are just as important as Generas, IMO
I have five brothers, all of whom were PFCs, and I consider all of them heros.
