POLL shows Chambliss (pasty-faced sleazy repuke - GA) could be vulnerable
This is great news...from my home state! Recall that pasty-faced Chambliss was the cretin who shamefully blasphemed war hero Max Cleland in pursuit of his Senate seat.

Poll shows Chambliss could be vulnerable
By Aaron Blake
May 25, 2007

A new poll in Georgia shows Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) could be vulnerable to a strong Democratic challenger and that his current challenger is closer than many expected him to be.

The poll, conducted by independent Atlanta-based Insider Advantage and released Friday, shows Chambliss edging former Gov. Roy Barnes (D) 42-40. Barnes has not shown interest in the race, but he was used as a baseline sample for a well-known statewide Democrat.

In a second set of results, Chambliss is beating DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones 48-31. That is significantly closer than the 57-29 result shown by a Strategic Vision poll from early April. Jones has established an exploratory committee for the race and will make an official announcement this summer.

The poll was conducted Tuesday and Wednesday among 500 registered voters in the state.
“It doesn’t mean that Chambliss is in serious trouble,” Insider Advantage CEO Matt Towery said. “Although I think it does show that he is a candidate who will have to work to reacquaint himself with the public here. He has very weak name ID.”

The Jones camp hailed the results as proof that he can be competitive with Chambliss. The state has not been high on the Democrats’ target list, as the national party has focused more on states like Texas and Kentucky.

2. Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia...
Never mind making the GOP a regional party, it's time to start raiding their home territory, and make them a homeless party!

12. You are on target
Saxby Chambliss *is* a character invented by Tennessee Williams. I am an Atlantan and Chambliss is the most disgusting politician still in office in this state since Zell Miller retired to sit on his porch and spit venom instead of tobacco. I think Georgia must have been very, very bad to have been visited with such sacks of excrement in our government.

5. Does Roy Barnes have the stomach for the fight
OK, so he polls well. But to run against and beat Saxby Chickenhawk, you will have to be prepared to fight very, very hard and avoid the Bob Shrum tactics.

I wish Paul hackett lived in Georgia.

6. Max Cleland. That's who I want back in the Senate.
It would cleanse Georgia of their great sin.

9. I'd love to have Max back too, but I've read quite a few articles where
he said he still suffers from PTSD and several other health problems. "As much as I'd love to have him back, I can't do that to him.

I don't know about Barnes. I think there's still a lot of Georgians who are pissed at him for what he did with the flag.

10. We HAVE to get the majority of people from ATlanta fo go out the damn door!
Atlanta, Athens and pockets of Gainesville are Dem. The rest of the state is redder than your blood! The majority of people are in Atlanta, but there seems to be quite a bit of apathy there too!

11. Not just apathy
but also a concerted effort by the Rethugs to keep them from voting. Remember the Voter ID bill (thankfully struck down in the courts) and the missing voter registration records?

And let's not forget Diebold -- when the machines were first used in 2002, Rethugs, including Chambliss, won big. Coincidence?

get the voting method changed in Ga.! I'm still hoping to get it done by 08!

13. Virtually hopeless statewide
Georgia is trending red more than any state in the country. I've been here since '02 and every cycle we get many posts like this, big hopes for wins in Georgia. It never threatens to happen. I realize we have to fight everywhere and I appreciate the effort from Democrats in Georgia but on a forum like this I have to be point blank and say Chambliss is a total lock for re-election.

Remember one thing about polling in Georgia; it ALWAYS overstates the Democratic chances. And that was true long before Diebold. The '94 gov race and '96 senate race and '00 presidential race were other examples. Georgia and Alaska overstate Democrats similar to New Jersey where polling always is too favorable to Republicans.
