My email to Pelosi
Speaker Pelosi,

I've been an avid supporter of yours for years. In fact, even before you were handed the gavel as Madame Speaker. I trust your intelligence, your intentions and your political knowledge of what's "right" and what's "wrong".

But it's becoming nearly impossible to defend your decision not to seek Impeachment against Bush and Cheney in the blog-o-sphere. The increasingly powerful blog-o-sphere, at that. One that should not be taken for granted in terms of raising money for elections, for vocal support of a candidate or legislation or for garnering much needed public support for controversial measures.

Obvious crimes have been committed by this Administration and people, who still remember the Impeachment of President Clinton, just can not see how your Congress can NOT move to take the necessary, Constitutional measures to prevent Bush from continuing to harm our Constitution -- for our Government's sake, for our People's sake and for our Country's sake.

Madame Speaker, you'll quickly losing support with many, many, many people and, once that's gone, I doubt it'll come back. If you need to stick your finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing and determine that I am, in fact, right, then please do so and then get on-board as quickly as possible before all is lost.

I look forward to your (hopefully not automated) response.

20. Just curious but as Speaker of the House, doesn't she represent *all* Dems?
If you are not a constituent of the 8th district of California...

I know that regular members rarely listen to constituents outside their districts, but I would think a House Speaker would listen to all within her party.

It seems reasonable...

22. Her staff size is about the same as any other member
she doesn't get dozens of extra staffers to deal with correspondance.

5. I can either take your condescending, defeatist
attitude (works wonders in your life, I'm sure) and sit around bitching and complaining and making useless threats that no one listens to, or I can actually do something. Sitting with my thumb up my *ss and feebly attempting to knock other people for their efforts never did work for me.

Good try, though.

9. thank you
I've never been called a wingnut before. My staunchly Democratic family will get a kick, a hoot and a holler outta that one, beings how I'm the most cautious of the group.

So, what do I do? I donate oodles of money to those candidates who I believe will be an asset to their constituents and the Democratic Party -- enables them to get their message to a wider audience and be an actual threat against better funded Repug incumbents --, I hold small Candidate (Congress, Senate and President) meet-and-greets in my New York City apartment and my home in Los Angeles and I pick up the phone and call those that are trying my patience and pissing me off to pass along my disappointment.

May not seem like much, but I am, after all, just a wingnut.

not sure when DU turned into grade school during recess, but there you go. Before you know it, someone will be saying something about being rubber and something-or-other bouncing off and sticking to you like glue or something. Or playing dodgeball.

Ahhhhh, dodgeball. Now THAT takes me back!

18. To quote Hartman
Tag yoru it

Democracy is NOT a spectator sport

If you are not willing to ahem tell them what you think... then don't expect them to know what side of the parade you are taking

They listen to the squeaky wheel, which is the one that gets the oil

I emailed her as well, but quite frankly, do not expect any type of response. Heck, I'm just a hillbilly from Iowa. What do I know?

12. Same thing happened to me
And there is another post here in this very thread which has the link as well. Maybe if enough of us contact her, it will make a dent in her thinking. I also just emailed Congressman Bruce Braley, here in Iowa's First District. He has shown some spine, for a freshman Representative, so we shall see if he continues to do so.

10. No you are NOT JUST an ANYTHING. It counts. Your opinion counts. YOU count.
Dare I suggest maybe you also call her? You can do it TOLL FREE...

There are TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard numbers in my sig line. Her office is often busy, bit I keep trying. And you might say "I care enough about this to call all the way from Iowa..." I've found that when I call somebody's district outside my state, I say "I care enough to call all the way from California" and they usually don't blow me off. Especially if they're Dems.

DO IT. She and her staff ALL need to know how widespread this sentiment is. They need to know it goes WAY beyond the California borders.

And btw - you ask "what do I know"? Evidently you know enough to CARE.

:hi:

PS: My new column is up, for your consideration.

19. I worked in Congressman Ed Medvinsky's office when he was the
rep from Iowa. When we got calls or letters we assumed that they represented how 40 people felt: the one who wrote the letter and the 39 who did not take the time. She may not read it personally but she will get a tally of pros and cons and a general summary of the consensus.

not only about impeachment but about caving on the Iraq funding bill. I told her most of America voted to get out of the war or at very least not to support it.

is a total Bushy and its a waste of time to write him as I get veiled nasty letters basically laughing at me because most of his people agree with him. I live in the middle of Washington state and my congressman has been around forever...ugh...

...as I understand it, aides keep tally sheets regarding the messages that come in. I've actually had long phone conversations with people in my Congressman's office ~ nice folks.
