Durbin made choices about speaking out (then and now) and he made choices about how to vote for the IWR.

But he was not alone. He's simply the one who spoke about what the committee members knew then.

Here are the entire roster of Dems on that committee back then, and how they voted:

Bob Graham, Florida (Voted No)
Richard Durbin, Illinois (Voted No)
Carl Levin, Michigan (Voted No)
Barbara A. Mikulski, Maryland (Voted No)
Ron Wyden, Oregon (Voted No)
John Edwards, North Carolina (Voted Yes)
Evan Bayh, Indiana (Voted Yes)
Thomas A. Daschle, South Dakota (Voted Yes)
Dianne Feinstein, California (Voted Yes)
John D. Rockefeller IV , West Virginia (Voted Yes)

P.S. Other than Rockefeller, it's pretty much what I would expect from those names.

2. I am confused - I have not been on DU for a few days and I am wondering who attacked
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 08:04 AM by Mass
Durbin and why?

I have seen a lot of stupid disputes on DU, but this one would really be stupid. What the hell did Durbin do on this issue that bother DUers? Vote NO to the IWR both in commission and floor vote? Vote NO to the Feingold/Kerry bill to start withdrawing troops last year with a deadline?

What is exactly the problem?

3. Here's a link to a blog that talks about it .....
http://www.correntewire.com/executive_branch_cant_be_trusted_with_state_secrets

Essentially, Durbin says the Intel Committee knew the intel was weak at best, and quite likely worng, but they were sworn to secrecy so they couldn't go public beofre the IWR vote .... hence, some are now saying that Durbin is a coward for not speaking out back then.

4. Thanks - Who is this idiot relaying RW memes (The Corner is not exactly considered balanced).
Jeez - Anything else -

And you are right, why did they attack Durbin rather than the other ones who sat at the committee?

5. Not the "Corner" -- it's the "CorrenteWire", a lefty group blog.
Just thought you should know.

I haven't read any of the Durbin threads beside this one. But it's easy enough to tell that a controversy has erupted by reading the thread titles alone. ;)

6. It's the ones who saw the same intelligence and voted yes that are the problem for me.

7. Exactly, it truly bothers me that John Edwards and others saw this and voted for it anyway.
This was at best terrible judgment and at worst pure political cowardice.

10. Absolutely
Whatever Durbin may be guilty of, if anything, he wasn't callous enough to proceed to vote for the Lieberman IWR knowing what he knew. But then he wasn't planning a 2008 run.
