supporters who like his foreign policy acumen, but otherwise I didn't see anything that would seriously gain or lose support for Hillary, Edwards, Obama (or Dodd, for that matter).

I was generally impressed with the field (for a first debate with a crappy format hosted by an ass), but does anyone really think Hillary, Edwards, or Obama gained or lost substantial ground last night? Does anyone think that any second tier candidates advanced to the top tier?

If so, isn't it conspicuous that the MSM is so thrilled with Hillary's performance (and Biden's) and so down on Obama's?

1. Substantial ground? No. But I do think perceptions were modified. NT

3. How so? I was a bit let down by Dodd, and a bit surprised by how feisty Gravel was but otherwise
everyone's performance more or less what I expected (and my disappointment with Dodd was basically my evaluation of his performance in comparison with my expectations - I had higher expectations for Dodd). Whose public perception do you think shifted other than maybe Gravel's?

4. I didn't think there was any substantial ground made. The perceptions that were modified, I think
had to do with Hillary, who did better than many expected, Obama, who didn't do as well (but still, did fine) as some hoped, Edwards, who wasn't as on fire as some anticipated, and Biden, who did better than many thought he would. Dodd kind of receded into the background. He didn't break out and he needed to, and I think his supporters were hoping for more. Kucinich, thanks to Gravel, wasn't the bug-eyed lefty everyone anticipated. Gravel was a TOTAL introduction to those who don't remember him from back in the day when he was much younger and a bit more temperate in his demeanor. He definitely added spice to the stew, and that 'potted plant' remark came at the right time to keep the audience focused.

We aren't talking earthquake-type shifts here. Just slight nudges. They can have an effect over time, though.
