From DowJones Marketwatch:
Bush would veto bill to require Medicare drug-price talks

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The White House on Tuesday said President Bush would veto legislation slated for debate in the Senate that would require the federal government to negotiate prescription-drug prices under Medicare. The White House, in a statement of administration policy, argued that private competition between drug-plan providers is working to hold down costs and that government negotiations would be counterproductive. 4. The administration killed the Seniorcare drug program in Wisconsin
Wisconsin had a state-run program for seniors that negotiated with drug makers and provided coverage to seniors at a reasonable cost. It was able to continue under a waiver for a couple of years after Medicare part D started, but as of June it will end because the Bush administration refused to renew the waiver. Bah!
