Streisand event raises $1.3 million for Democrats
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 05:42 PM by Miss Marmelstein
OS ANGELES (Reuters) - A fund-raiser at the home of
Barbra Streisand generated $1.3 million for Democrats running for the U.S. House of Representatives, her spokesman said on Friday.

The gala dinner on Thursday night honoring House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), a California Democrat, was attended by 120 guests who paid $25,000 to $50,000 a couple. Proceeds go to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to support the party's efforts to expand its House majority in the 2008 elections.

Streisand publicist Dick Guttman said it was the first national political fund-raiser hosted by the singer-actress at her Malibu estate since her 1986 "One Voice" concert benefit for Democratic Senate candidates, which grossed $1.2 million.

Guests included "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria,
rocker Melissa Etheridge,
veteran actor Dick Van Dyke,
producer Norman Lear and saxophonist Kenny G.

Hollywood has long been a key fund-raising ground for politicians and Streisand has been a leading Democratic supporter, lending her influence to former
President Clinton, and presidential hopefuls
Al Gore and U.S. Sen.
John Kerry, among others.

1. Except
Melissa Etheridge isn't a veteran actor. She's a rock and roller. As far as I know, her acting experience is limited to Ellen's coming out episode...maybe a few other things but she certainly is NOT a veteran actor. ...and she certainly IS a rock and roller.

Other than that, this sounds like a hoot and a half. Good for Barbra.

4. If you are looking for a solid, true-blue Democrat to go to the wall
against the Rethugs, Barbara Streisand is your woman.

She is as generous as she is talented, which means she is extremely generous indeed.

At the peak of her career, she could outsing anyone on the planet.

Thank you, Ms. Streisand, for the support of our party over such a long period of time.

8. She's a worker for Dems.
Always.

Here's her official website on Sony music.
http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/BarbraStreisand/

It's a testament to her that she can bravely post her political views on a corporate website. Isn't it? I think so.

She'd make a great DUer, IMO. :-)

K&R.

"Oh WHY is it ALWAYS 'Miss Marmelstein'?" :hi:
